also, watching the video highlights on mlb, and beltran hit a line drive down the 3b line that caught the foul line chalk and should've been called fair. it was a tough call for the ump, but sure looks like it caught the outside of the chalk.

It was definitely fair. You could see the mark the ball made in the chalk when they showed it later in the game. Yet another reason to add replay.

Thread derail: In that case, the ump called the ball foul, play dead. In perfect-world replay, would that be non-reviewable, or would they go back and if they see it's ruled fair, make a determination of what likely would have happened and award the batter (and any base runners) the bases they likely would have gotten?

That one's an easy call. Call it just like you would fan interference if the ball goes up against the stands and give him second base.

And didn't they make calls like that reviewable in the post season last year?

Chapman got the save last night by striking out the side against the Astros. His stats now stand at:

22g, 27 ip, 7h, 0er, 8bb, 47k, 0.56 whip, 15.7 k/9

Speaking of the Reds and absurd individual statistics, how's this for a triple slash:

.345 / .475 / .621

Of course, I'm referring to Joey Votto. Man does it suck this guy will never be a free agent.

How the eff is my roto team in 6th place with Votto and Konerko leading the way? Not like my team has a bunch of scrubs everywhere else either. Hanley, Longoria (though hurt), Dez Jennings (though hurt), Jeter, Posey, Ethier.

The Cardinals have yet to score a run against the Mets. When is the last time a team got shut out for an entire series of at least 3 games? Granted, this series concludes with a 4th game tomorrow.

What was Marmol's k/9 when he set the record or was close to it for a season?

16 even. Chapman is at 16.1.

Anyone else here think Chris Sale will blow his arm out at some point, given how the Sox are pitching him, violent delivery and thin frame?

now take a look at Ernesto Frieri's numbers, especially with the Angels

he's got a 18.9 K/9 all while throwing 90% fastballs (averaging 93.5 MPH); it boggles the mind

The Mariners are pitching a combined no-hitter through 8 innings right now. Millwood was the starter and went 6 innings before leaving with an injury suffered while warming up for the 7th inning. There have been 4 relievers involved since then.

PS Combined no-hitters suck

M's got a fortunate call on that potential IF single by Gordon; i think he was safe there

Me too but it seemed to be really really close. I bet that umpires are scared to Jim Joyce a no-hit/perfect game bid.

Had he not gotten hurt, Millwood likely wouldn't have had to worry about a pitch count either. He threw only 68 pitches through the six innings.

In 171 PA over 38 games since his callup in late April, Mike Trout is OPS'ing .950 and has put up a 2.4 WAR. Thru two innings today, his numbers this weekend in Colorado are 7 for 10, a 2b, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 4 SB, and 8 runs scored.

Want.

I haven't seen Trout play a whole lot, but check his stats fairly often and have him in a fantasy league, he seems like he's going to be really good one. I think I'd maybe take him over Harper.

he already IS a really good one. he's third in WAR among american league OF and spent the first month of the season in the minors. there's no need for the "going to be" part of your statement.

Including last night's game in which he went 2/4 with a HR, a BB, and 2 SBs, Trout now stands at .354 / .412 / .565 (.977) with 15 SBs.

He's honestly a legit MVP candidate right now. At 20 years old. Disgusting.
