the marlins are being no-hit after 6 innings by the cardinals.

normally i'm fully opposed to the cardinals winning or doing anything good, but the marlins are awful, and it would be funny to see them lose and get no hits to open their ballpark, as the world's most expensive lawn ornament sits silently beyond the left-centerfield fence.

And Reyes breaks it up to start the seventh.

Seriously, could the Marlins have made that home run celebration monstrosity any gaudier?

i can't wait until left-handed hitters start complaining about it.

0-for-1 for the home run monstrosity.

hopefully the marlins hit zero home runs and the population of miami decides to burn it at the end of the season. and they throw loria and samson into the fire a la denethor in lord of the rings.

[expletive] you to all of the hells.

Well of course it sounds bad when you ignore the part about Loria being cast back into the flames that whelped him.

Nope. It's a thing of monstrous beauty.

I watched the game last night partly to see Logan Morrison (fantasy team) but mainly to see that thing go off when someone hit a HR. After watching Stanton crush a couple of balls that didn't go out I think it's safe to say that thing may not be going off as much as they had hoped.

It's probably worth $50,000 but Loria has it insured for $5,000,000.

I saw some VP from the Mets on TV this morning talking about selling tickets. They were very proud of going past 40,000 as of this morning for opening day, but not very happy with the sports guy who mentioned that 15,000 of the tickets will get you a free one to one of the next two days. Cubs fans stopped showing up en masse last year, but Mets fans are way ahead of them in this department.

They might need to turn it on once after each game. The Brewers did that with the retractable roof for a season or two.

I watched last night just to see the home run thing go off but I have to say that I like the lime green walls a lot.

That color scheme made the game as unwatchable as the final four with their hideous floor.
