On a related note, has anyone seen Pittsburgh's offensive stats so far? They have a team line of .187/.228/.276/.504 so far and they have more regulars with a BA and OBP under .100 (three) than they do with an OPS over .538 (two). They've also scored only 11 runs in seven games.

It should be noted that they've faced Halladay, Lee, Kershaw and Cain already and in those outings, the Pirates have nine hits, two walks and two runs in 30 innings.

That is brutal. Damn.

Yu Darvish 5.2 IP, 9 H, 4 BB, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 K

Not particularly impressive again.

Apparently he hasn't been throwing his change/split in the U.S. yet, which is one of his best pitches. Not sure why.

disagree. takes quite the magic act to give up only 2 runs (1 earned) with 13 baserunners allowed.

Porcello's sinker is going to be an awesome pitch as he finds his groove. Consistently 92-94 today and it had good movement all game. Still needs a second and third pitch, but the change up had its moments. He had a good curve in high school but looks like he throws more sliders. I'm expecting some more consistency this year and over the next three years where he develops into a 1b-high2 type once he finds a breaking ball.

Btw this Yankee team is really, really good. That's the usual but I mean better than usual. That lineup is just deadly. I almost expect them to run away with it as much as any recent AL East team can run away with it. Kuroda threw really well yesterday with command of 4 pitches. Nova is still young but he does have an interesting arm as he gives up a 2 run shot. Still inconsistent, but I can see him being a solid 3-4 type in the long run, which is all they need from him anyway.

Cole Hamels is nasty.

Can't believe I called Matt Kemp overrated.

Is there a better non-closer bullpen ace than David Robetson right now?

Sergio Romo is pretty good.

I got nice club level seats (for $10) at Miller Park to see Brewers/Dodgers on Wednesday night. Greinke, Steroid Boy, Kemp, etc. Should be a good time.

Holy crap...here I was thinking one of the Braves guys...That said, Robinson threw more innings and does it in the AL East/Yankee Stadium, neither too much fun to pitch in.

Interesting thing about Robertson is that I think he's gotten better as a pitcher since coming up. Physically I think he throws a little harder and gets a little more extension in his already really solid delivery...All around just a stud pen arm.

Why would Verlander throw a 130+ pitch complete game in April?

because he's a gamer and made of grit. he also threw 120+ his previous start.

He was hitting 100 on the gun right at the end. Yeesh.

http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/24246/what-is-up-rick-ankiel

Rick Ankiel had a nice throw from right center to home preventing a tagging runner from scoring (runner didn't even attempt it). But I think some people might be going a little overboard on the praise. The video didn't match up the descriptions I read. If you freeze frame the replay right when he releases the ball, you can see 2nd base. It looks to me like he is roughly the same distance from 2B as 2B is from home plate. That's about 250 feet, or maybe less. It's shallow RC field, an area from which only the fastest runners or most aggressive would tag, unless the CF is Juan Pierre.

This is a nice throw, but it's also a throw that loads of people can make. Now maybe my estimated measurements are off, but it's not like he was throwing from anywhere close to the 370 foot deep fence.

In completely random and worthless news, I was kind of surprised to hear Josh Lewin doing radio work for the Mets. They always seem to have about a half dozen people to choose from to do portions of their games. He's the quintessential modern completely boring and generic radio voice.

It was awesome to be there to watch him, finally caught him in person. But, yeah that is prolly overuse.

Oh and KC has a hot gun. Danny Duffy was hitting 99 and he's a mid 90s guy. Also Kelvin Herrera hit 102. I call bs.
