I just saw that and looked up the record for walks in a game.

Bagwell drew 6 in a 16-inning game in 99. Mark Grace became one of a handful to draw 6 over the course of an 18-inning doubleheader. Jimmie Foxx drew 6 in a 9-inning game in 1938. Gordon's game today got him close.

Wasn't Dawson intentionally walked 5 times in a game?

ETA: Yep.

R.A. Dickey has a no-hitter through 4. It's not live-look-worthy, but it is now 12 consecutive IP without allowing a hit. He has allowed a BB.

Some explain to me how journeyman RA Dickey is now an all star level pitcher.

I've watched him a couple times, and his knuckleball is insane. He changes speeds with it (66-81) and it actually looks like he can somehow command it. He'll also sneak 85 MPH fastballs by people from time to time.

Once he had the lead, he only resorted to the fastball when he was down 3-0 and needed the strikes. Prior to Ike Davis's grand slam, my perception from half paying attention was that he would only throw a couple fastballs per inning.

The movement alone was nothing short of nasty, and when he has command of all four corners of the strike zone, changes speeds, and gets the benefit of the call on a lot of close pitches, the hitters don't really stand a chance.

I'm slightly amused by the fact that the Royals handled the Cardinals pretty well this weekend and are now getting pummeled by the Astros tonight. Mostly amused by the cards losing and all the uproar about Matheny and their pen right now.

After 14 innings in today's epic Royals / Cardinals tilt, Alex Gordon is 0/2. Oh, and with 5 WALKS.

That's right. He's 0/2 with 5 BBs. In one game.

Meanwhile, Starlin Castro has drawn 5 BBs in his last 62 games.

Dickey has pitched back to back 1 hitters and has given up 1 ER over his past 6 starts (0.18 ERA). The guy is going to win the CY at this rate

He could be going all Wakefield, longevity-wise, and just now hitting his prime.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/r-a-dickeys-three-movingest-knucklers-from-monday/

thanks for posting that link. definitely an interesting knuckleball. looking at the velocity of some knuckleball pitchers on fangraphs, here are the small handful who have pitched in the 2000s:

jared fernandez: 66-70

steve sparks: 70-72

tim wakefield: 65-68

charlie haeger: small sample size, but high 60s

r.a. dickey: 74-77

so dickey's knuckleball is quite a bit faster than most knuckleball pitchers - something that's evident by the naked eye as well as the data. interestingly, he threw his knuckleball in the mid to high 60s in texas - when he was making the transition to knuckleball pitcher. with the mariners in 2008 his average knuckler velocity was 73.0, then 74.9 with the twins in 2009, then 75.9, 76.1 and 76.8 with the mets from 2010-12. so he's been throwing it harder and seeing more success. i remember knuckleball pitchers saying that the key to throwing a good knuckleball was to NOT overthrow it - just let the ball slide out of your fingers. usually the ones they overthrew had some spin, so they didn't knuckle, and were pounded. dickey seems to have found a way to throw the knuckleball relatively hard, but without spin. pretty fascinating.

but he's been a knuckleball pitcher for many years, and wasn't good. now he's awesome. it's just weird how he figured out how to throw a great knuckleball in his mid 30s.

He didn't start throwing the knuckleball until the 2006 season, so this is his seventh season throwing it. He was pretty good each of the past two years and had a solid year in the minors in 2007. So roughly half the time he's been throwing it (including three of the five years he's spent in the majors), he's been at least good.

He also throws many more knuckleballs now than he did prior to joining the Mets, speaking in terms of the proportion of total pitches he throws.

Has anyone noticed Colby Rasmus lately? Kid is hitting for massive power these days, including 2 HRs last night. Now up to .259 / .319 / .486 on the season. A .486 slug from your CF spot doesn't suck.

Colby's dad has blamed the Cardinals, primarily TLR for his woes and sais that the trade saved his career and he was thinking about quitting before it happened. Not sure how much truth is in it, but it's always nice to hear TLR blasted.

Chris Archer makes his MLB debut against the Nationals tonight.

About to head out the door for it. Can't wait.

The Giants didn't allow a single run in a three game sweep of the Dodgers.
