Went to the Royals/White Sox game tonight. Nothing amazing but kind of interesting. Dunn hit his 400th HR, Youkilis got his 1000th hit and Billy Butler got his 900th hit. All in the same game.

Headed to the 18th tied at 3 in St. Louis. Juan Cruz (didn't know he was still pitching) just blew a save for the Pirates in the 17th.

I wish MLB Network would just go to this game rather than showing highlights of every out after it happens.

Off to the 19th! Starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez is in for the Pirates.

Molina just got obliterated at home plate in the Cardinals/Pirates game but held onto the ball for the 3rd out of the inning. I can't stand the guy, but sure would love to have him on my team.

Well, he's no woman.

@MLB: Yadier Molina was forced to exit after this devastating collision, but he held onto the ball because he's a man: http://t.co/iufZqtmT

If LaRussa was still the manager he'd have his pitchers throwing at the Pirates the rest of the season

Why are home plate collisions legal again?

What else was the runner supposed to do?

Be tagged out.

I really haven't formed an opinion either way on collisions, I've really never thought about the topic. But if you aren't going to allow players to run over catchers at home plate, then catchers shouldn't be allowed to blatatnly block homeplace to the point where the runner doesn't have a choice but to run over the catcher to get to the plate.

Westbrook did throw at Josh Harrison later, angering Rod Barajas. Don't ever change, Cardinals.

Exactly. I just don't know how that rule could be enforced. MLB could try to legislate head shots, but even that is difficult because the catcher's positioning may put his head right at shoulder-level.

Also even if the catcher is in a position to begin with where he's putting himself in immediate danger of getting ran over the throws from the OF often can take them up the line or force them to bend down lower to pick a ball and put them in danger in a matter of seconds, that also is something that comes into play. So is a catcher just supposed to let a bad throw either up the line or in the dirt go by to the backstop so he doesn't get in the way of the runner?

I'm not a fan of collisions at the plate, but the Harrison/Molina one last night was one of the cleaner ones I've seen. Molina had taken away the entire running/sliding lane to the plate and the hit itself didn't look malicious (as opposed to something like the Cousins/Posey play, where part of the plate was open, and Cousins looked like he was trying to kill Posey).
