Covers 3B with plus fielder looking for offensive rebound.

Is he really a "plus fielder"? I thought he was kinda "meh" defensively.

Ian Stewart and RHP Casey Weathers to Cubs for Tyler Colvin and DJ LeMahieu, per Troy Renck of the Denver Post

Just a tad late

now I feel like the guy who didn't get the "taco party" text because of the slow network :(

wow, career 11.3 k/9 and 6.1 h/9 for Weathers (and 7.1 bb/9)

so, another Marmol!

8th overall pick in 2007, had TJ surgery at the end of 2008. The fact that the Cubs apparently wanted him makes him have a small amount of intrigue-maybe they found some mechanical flaw?

I think it's a fair trade, but we gave up two young, high draft picks for an unproven guy. No way most GM's would do that if it was their system who drafted those players. Edited by Wrigley Rat

Or perhaps he's just a longshot throw-in to help compensate for including D.J.

I like it. Obviously we know how we feel about Colvin, and Lemahieu seemed like a guy we would wake up with in 4 years and be like "[expletive], he's still hitting 6 home runs a year."

I didn't want to give up LeMahieu in this honestly. But Stewart's upside is very high. I couldn't care less about Colvin, he'll probably wind up as a career 4th OFer. LeMahieu? Who knows? If he could stick at 2B though, he could have lots of value and make us regret this. That said, it's probably pretty unlikely. Weathers is a flyer obviously, probably just another in a long line of guys who throw hard and have no clue where it's going. But, who knows? Stewart still has All Star potential, so this could wind up a great move. At worst, we've got Baker and Dewitt for now, in case Stewart is awful. I'm optimistic though.

For some reason I'm pretty optimistic about this. Stewart/Baker platoon?

Anyone look at Baker's splits by month last year? I know AVG is not anyone's favorite stat, but man!

June - .179

July - .208

yeah, whatever to this. he's a below average player at 3rd.

unlike the other cheap available options, he surely has the potential for more

today's moves make me wonder why Theo hasn't dismissed Wilken; three recent very high picks of his he's let go without pause

I wonder if the posting of Darvish is what the Cubs were waiting on to pull the trigger on Stewart? By going relatively cheap at 3B, I'd think they go heavy after one of Darvish/Fielder.

Kinda a meh trade for me.

I don't feel strongly about either Colvin or DJ L, but feel the same way about Stewart.

He's 26. More than likely he is what he is at this point.

If he is what he was in 2009-10, we could do worse.

he does fill a hole if he can provide some power.

we're going to need a lot of it, a lot.

I guess I won't complain. LeMahieu seemed like a decent enough prospect but how much better than Aaron Miles is he ever really going to be. Weathers seems intriguing, but I wish we could have maybe found a way to work Jason Hammel into the deal instead who the Rockies were reportedly interested in moving at one point. I have hope for Stewart. Do your thing Rudy.

Actually, O'Dowd did this exact thing in this very deal. He took both Stewart and Weathers in the 1st round.

I just have a hunch we are more likely to get Kuroda/Chen and Fielder, we probably won't even get Fielder(please fill up the rest of my glass!).
