Oh hells yea. If they get Turner, milb.tv gets my $$$

At that price I'll pick it up regardless. I had no idea it was that cheap.

I was trying to confirm last year, and they were actually offering it as a $10 add on if you ordered MLB.tv. Not sure if they'll bring that back this year.

Yea the current website is rather confusing.

they can always hold off on filing the paperwork on the maholm signing until they decide what they're going to do about the 40-man, whether it be trading garza/baker/dewitt/whoever or removing a guy like maine or mateo.

This is a silly thing to get excited about, but I was looking at the fangraphs front page today and they still had the links to their 2011 Organizational Rankings.

Last year, we were #29 for front office/baseball ops and t-20th for "future talent."

If a Garza trade goes through, we should easily be top-10 in both categories. We are trending upward.

Weren't the Padres interested in Maine at the time of the Stewart trade? Just send him over for a C level prospect.

I read on PSD that Dombrowski likes both DeWitt and Samardzija and feels they both fit.

I'd be disappointed to give up Samardzija after he seems to finally be putting it together, but I'm sure the package would probably be worth it.

Yeah, neither of those two should be a hindrance to a trade (outside of uh, Samardzija blocking it, but speaking to what I feel about it in general) if the right, quality package is offered. Actually, DeWitt shouldn't be worth a 2nd thought. Shark ... maybe, but still, if that gets you a 2nd high ceiling arm, and a 3rd intriguing guy (Brantly or another arm would be my picks), then okay.

I'm not completely sure about this, but I think Samardzija's NTC is gone. As soon as they declined that option it should have gone away.

Not that I think it'd happen, but including Barney is about the only possible way I could see Castellanos coming back. Garza/Barney for Turner/Smyly/Castellanos
Posted
I have high, high doubts that Barney is the difference between us getting Castellanos and not in a Garza trade. I'd imagine that it would take someone/something with better ceiling to get them to let go of Castellanos and Turner (assuming Goldstein is right).

What percentage of a given team's games are actually broadcast? For instance, how many Daytona games can you get with the package? Peoria?

I'm hoping it's one of those things where they're close to the fence on caving in and when Theo says he'll add in Barney, they think they're getting a solid everyday player and cave. This being said, I still doubt the validity of ANY of this, as NO ONE, other than Kaplan has even mentioned it. Levine made no mention of a potential Garza deal in his Maholm writeup, none of the national guys have picked up on it and while I worded it poorly, I asked Bruce Miles on Twitter tonight if a Garza deal was possible tomorrow and he replied "anything is possible". Not exactly sounding like something's up.

aren't those three (turner/castellanos/smyly) their top 3 prospects? i feel like if you're making a deal where you give away your three best prospects, you should be getting something better than garza and barney. two of the three would be reasonable, with turner obviously #1.

According to Wittenmyer, Cubs anticipate bringing back Rodrigo Lopez. I'm not starting a thread for that. At least he did mention that the Maholm signing could open things up for a Garza trade.

3 of the 4. Depends on how one views Crosby in comparison with Smyly. I guess Oliver loosely fits in the mix, so maybe 3 out of their top 5.

Hello everyone.

Right off the bat I have to say that the Tigers, to me, fit like a glove when it comes to Garza. For one thing, Comerica would be a great place for him to pitch. For another thing, he would give the Tigers a very strong #2 starter behind Verlander and in front of Fister/Scherzer. He's a more stable starter than Scherzer and he brings more power and experience than Fister does.

Then of course there's the arms. Porcello would be a good get. He's still extremely young, and he's shown great stuff here or there that could use some good old fashioned coaching. I do not think he could headline the trade, but man would it be good to get in low. There's plenty of time for him to reach his upside as a #2 or better. Turner everyone knows and talks about at this point. I like him too, though he's not my favorite minor league pitcher or even pitcher from that draft (Shelby Miller). I think Drew Smyly would be a steal and would prefer him over Crosby/Oliver (both who would also be pretty good pieces).

Castellanos would be a coup and I might even prefer him to Turner. I might even prefer Porcello to Turner unless Theo disagrees.

Combinations I'd go for:

Porcello, Castellanos, Smyly

Turner, Castellanos, Crosby/Oliver

Porcello, Turner, Smyly

Etc.

Yuck. I guess Theo thinks he could be traded for filler at the deadline, otherwise you just DFA him in September when its time to call-up the McNutts of the world?

Porcello recently opted out of his existing contract, and now they're working on arbitration or a long term deal. Are they able to trade him before they've reached some kind of agreement with him?

Also, I just checked out motownsports.com, which I think is the Tigers version of NSBB to see if they had any insight or rumors we havn't heard. I didn't come across anything mention of any kind of impending Garza deal. Kind of odd considering how big of a trade it would be.

They've done enough wonderful things over the past few weeks for me not to question this.

At this point, I can't see him on the major league roster. My guess is he'll spend the year in Iowa providing veteran leadership along with Andy Sonnastine.

Seriously, I'd just view this as a junk player only to be used in case of emergency, likely as bullpen depth and a 7th/8th starter. It's not like he's going to get a significant contract or anything.

Any time somebody signs a 36 year old pitcher who isn't good at pitching, it should be questioned.

we're going for the number 1 pick

I'd be perfectly fine punting this season if it means building up a farm that can produce consistent talent and help us to be a perennial contender.

After all, we've waited this long; what's another few years?

Occupies a spot on the 40-man. May be he's getting a minor league deal. I could live with that.
