What does fluid in the triceps mean health-wise?

Sucks that Garza won't pitch before deadline, which means he won't be dealt until the offseason if at all. So, now the options will be to trade him as a rental next year or sign him to an extension.

lol. The whole Dempster saga and now this. When it rains, it [expletive] pours. It's like a bad dream right now.

But keeping Garza is good.

Not in the long run.

In the longest run.

I'm in the minority, but I really think some teams will still trade for Garza and give up a fine package if they like him. This is not a huge injury and I believe a team physical would show that, and with another year of control, his value isn't hurt that much.

I think it's still possible but I think it does hurt the chances. We'll see.

Weren't you the "why are we afraid of good baseball players?" guy this offseason?

I don't think he's very high on Garza (and keeping him around at what it will likely cost).

Which makes the question even better, since Garza is a good baseball player.

Doubt #Cubs’ Garza would clear waivers. Best chance of deal would be off-season. Tough for team to take chance now with health uncertain.

Only a team run by morons wouldn't claim Garza.

He's not as good as some people on this board make him out to be. And given that the Cubs haven't talked about an extension with him in months, they probably don't think too highly of him either. His trade value will likely decline going forward, so I can't see this being a positive unless the Cubs are able to sign him to a really good extension (which they've apparently shown no interest in doing).

Garza is a nice player. But I've been turned off by his downturn this season. And I feel that the results will always struggle to live up to the peripherals due to his putrid field and bat handling abilities. I feel he will struggle mightily to live up to the next contract (or the one after next if all he does is sign for 1 year). His age 27 season was probably his one off career year that won't be matched, but expectations and contracts will be influenced mightily by what has so far looked like a complete outlier in his career.

If the market was truly as strong for him as has been reported this year, the Cubs will have missed a terrific opportunity to do what they have supposedly been trying to do all year if they can't trade him.

I think an offseason trade of Garza might be better anyway. Good alternative for teams that lose out on other FA SPs. Also, gives him a chance to have a good 2nd half to boost his value a little. Or frankly, teams will be more willing to take a chance that they get 2011 Garza instead of 2012 Garza and have complete control if they want to sign him long-term or not.

I think that is an overly rosy view with little basis in reality. The 1.5 years of control thing was real, and it will be gone this winter. Teams were almost certainly willing to take a chance on him right now, in what is a very hot market. An offseason trade will be tough to match what could have been done now, let alone "be better".

I don't think anyone on this board has made him out to be more than he is. People have specifically mentioned NOT giving him a Matt Cain contract because he's not as good as Matt Cain. But he is young enough to be still be good enough to be a key part of the rotation when the Cubs are good enough to compete.

I hope the Cubs line up as a suitor.

We all better hope so because that is all we have right now. Hopefully Garza pitches well in the next few months and rides out 2012 on a strong note. That is the only way a package will match what we should have and now won't receive at this moment.

I still don't understand why people are happy that we are losing out on the ability to trade replaceable talent for prospects. I am especially bewildered when you factor in a trade deadline ripe with uncertainty because it is the first deadline since the new CBA.

Theo is probably slamming the bottle of Jack in desk pretty hard right now. Seems like no moves are going to happen before the deadline with how everything is going.

You're kidding yourself if you think he's not pissed about this turn of events. They were shopping him around because they wanted to, and now those efforts have been severely hindered.
