Muskat is well-respected?

She is much better than some. Pathetic that she still has to put up with comments like this.

Hello Carrie Muskat

Guess cubsclapp must be her also? Simply because he posted a neutral comment about her?

Classic Muskat.

Respected as in not like their colleague Bob Hohler, who will report BS personal information that has little to do with anything just because a member of management *cough* Lucchino *cough* wants to use you as tool to slime the outgoing manager.

lol, I knew that Red Sox guy would crawl back to SoSH and post his tale of his visit to NSBB.

I visited a Cubs fan forum called North Side Baseball today to get an idea for the prevailing opinions on Theo's compensation package. To a man they all claim they'll be shocked and disappointed if they give up anything of value. They claim they could simply wait a year or hire Friedman or someone else. That seems hopelessly unrealistic to me.

I'm with you, they knew they'd need to pay the piper to get Epstein aboard. He was the guy Ricketts targeted, he's the guy they already signed a contract for. Isn't the fallout in Chicago going to be murder if they lose out on Theo all because they didn't want to play ball on compensation? Failing to get this done makes the Cubs look incompetent and cheap. Failing to get this done doesn't make Boston look bad, it just means the Cubs weren't willing to pay a fair price for a top GM talent.

Guess he didn't want to learn anything while he was hear, he just wanted to tell us how we should be acting.

Also, I don't think a single person here suggested that we wait a year with an interim GM, I could be wrong though. The consensus is that it would be pretty stupid to do that, and we'd rather move on if the Red Sox vindictively screw us out of Theo.

But while there will likely be suggestions along the way that the two teams are far from finding middle ground, it is all but inevitable that they do so, because that is the outcome that all involved in the process have now accepted as not just likely but also desirable.

This is what I have believed for a couple of days now, but it still makes me feel better to read it. When the GM search started I never thought Epstein was a real possibility, so this whole process has been pretty amazing.

More. I guess he is posting his responses to our points we made back on his own forum where he would get pats on the back from his homer Sox fans. Sure didn't respond to any of our arguments here.

Actually 2 of the top 5 according to Baseball America. I'd argue that a GM is worth about 10x what a field manager is, but check out the Cubs fans response to that package. They believe that since the Marlins were accused of tampering they had to overpay for Ozzie to smooth things over. What a load of horse [expletive]. The White Sox wanted Logan Morrison at first and only settled on Marinez and Martinez when the Marlins threatened to walk and hire Bobby Valentine.

He's failing to realize that the Bobby Valentine-type threat would be coming from the Cubs in this case, not the Red Sox. The Red Sox are clearly the White Sox if we're to make a parallel with that scenario.

Well, his response to that will be more stuff about GMs being 10 times as valuable as a field manager, and therefore should bring much higher compensation. That might be a good argument if it was actually 10 times as difficult to find a GM, but of course it isn't.

Also they completely ignore the fact that the Cubs are offering him a damn promotion. Are the Red Sox going to make him the President of Baseball Opps anytime soon? Not likely, so why the hell are you trying to stand in the way of the guy who brought you 2 WS titles getting the promotion and raise he deserves.

Right. Epstein is obviously the guy at the top of Ricketts' list, but that doesn't make him the only option, or even make him the clearly "superior" option by that much, given the other names that have been floated out there. If the Cubs pack it in and walk away the Red Sox are stuck with a mess for the next year.

The faulty assumption that naysayers keep running with is that there are only 2 options for the Cubs: Theo or nobody.

Because of this, people project that the Cubs are "all-in" on Epstein, and will be left with nothing if they walk away. That they have to cater to the Red Sox demands, or they'll have nobody to GM for the next year.

Regardless of the chances Epstein comes to the Cubs (and the chances are still near-certain with how Henry was talking on the radio Friday), the Cubs still have about 5-6 options better than blowing their entire existing farm system for option 1.

And if, by some giant snafu by Red Sox ownership, Epstein doesn't come to the Cubs and stays with the Sox, not only do they get left with a lame duck GM for a year that wants nothing to do with ownership, they'll basically be telling every future high-end GM candidate not to even bother with their franchise.

And to think last week I didn't think the Sox could screw things up worse than panicking and getting rid of Francona and Epstein.

I like how the Red Sox guy points out that we said we'd be willing to wait a year and just stick with an interim GM this year... when he was the one to suggest that.

Red Sox guy is obviously a homer, piecing together the bits ans pieces he liked. Such as pointing out Henry saying he'd like Theo to be his GM for 20 years, and leaving out the rest of what he said, where he acknowledged it had become impossible for that to happen. And how virtually every source close to the situation will tell you Epstein's relationship with the rest of the FO, particularly Lucchino, is broken. And that Theo told them he was leaving after next year anyway, and allowing this to happen will save them 6.5 million dollars and a whole lot of headaches.

And yes, Epstein is Ricketts' guy and it would indeed be a big disappointment and slight to moderate setback, but he fails to see that there are Friedman, Hahn, Coppolella, Byrnes, and even Cherington all waiting around to be hired. None of those are Epstein (though Friedman might actually be better), but they represent plans B, C, D, E, etc.

red sox fans, if you're reading this, your city is full of poop and smells like poop. your fan base is poop and they talk funny like they got a mouth full of poop. you gave us ben affleck who is poop as well and i'm not too fond of that how bout them apples scene in goodwill hunting, it reminded me of poop. there was also another movie made about boston and it was called the town, and it was poop-flavored, to the max. all these people talking funny like JFK in the movies and on the simpsons, it was horse-poop. you also got a weird-lookin bridge there and it was probably designed by a guy who had poop for brains. we got an architect on this board and he's better than art vandelay and he could design a better bridge than that any day of the week.

also, i watched boondock saints and i pooped after 15 minutes out of pure rage and disgust. and i think that movie gone baby gone was boston too, but that was a good movie, i especially thought it was sad when the guy said the girl was cooking like a little pot-roast when they left her in the car. it turns out the girl was safe and sound and living with a black guy in the woods. he had to live there because that's where black guys live in that part of the country so they don't get hated on by the weak-ass white people who live there and talk funny like they got a mouth full of poop.

in summation, your team and owner have poop between their ears and since you all live in the catholic ghetto and most of you don't even have radios unless father o'fatbumps buys you one because he's molesting you and he doesn't want you to talk, you don't even know if your generic team won or not.

also, none of you like wu tang.

Despite the acrimony in the news reports and on the forum, the reports are that negotiations are proceeding along just fine. One report said that both sides have come to conclusion that Epstein joining the Cubs is inevitable.

Callin' all cars, callin' all cars, ghetto

Psychos, armed and dangerous, leaving mad scars on those

Who are found bound, gagged and shot when they blast the spot

Victims took off like astronauts

Get with this, even your best can't

Come on down, you're the next contestant

Get your pockets dug from all your chemical bankin's

Caught him at the red light on Putnam Avenue and Franklin

They used to heat up the cipher with a shot that was hyper

Than your average JFK sniper

He just came home to spark it

Rolling like Kaufman and lay that ass out like carpet

Stop the stuttering boy, save the planes for the five oh

Then praise the God chik-a-chik pow

They be lick shots and premeditate to grab

And then they eject back to the lab

And then remain in Shaolin an endangered island

Shorties lose blood by the gallon
