I'm actually genuinely curious as to how often those types of "they're just some patience away from being all stars" prospects actually develop said patience when they are the opposite of patient as, pretty much, grown adults in the minor leagues.

Any good examples of guys who have done that?

Sosa, I guess, but he had some "help" lol

I'm pretty sure steroids don't make you more patient.

Hitting 1.5-2x as many home runs might, though.

And you won't hit all those homers without managing the strike zone. There was more in play with Sosa than steroids, but let's not derail here.

Maybe I'm gun-shy on that whole thing after the Smardz fiasco, but rather than expect him to suddenly become way better at baseball because he can now focus on it, I'll just wait and see.

It's not like Szczur has been bad to this point. He's at .303/.350/.431 for his two seasons in the minors. He has a near-elite hit tool combined with great speed & defense. His power has increased as he's gone up the ladder - even as he's worn down from the continuous activity.

Yeah, I don't buy the whole "worn out" argument ever since I fell for that stuff back when Corey Patterson was on the Cubs. It sounds plausible, but I don't give it any credibility.

When Theo comes to the Cubs it will be so great. Thank you Ricketts family.

If he brings Byrns with him, that's icing.

I gotta say... AceCubbie's site is quickly becoming my favorite Cubs blog.

I feel the same way, he's done great work lately. Also recommend Cubs Den and The Cub Reporter (great for Arizona Phil's content).

That's some high praise. Thanks, gents.

And now, naturally, this latest rumor will prove unfounded, and I'll be banished to the depths of the unreadable masses...

Still don't want to give up Szczur. Any way we could sell them on Ha instead? Not like they'll be needing a starting OF anytime soon, especially center. Hell looking at the Red Sox, they're set at 1B, 2B, 3B, LF, and CF for years to come. Redick looks like he should be holding down RF as well.

I don't mind giving up guys like Jay or Flaherty who look like they could be useful big leaguers as soon as next season, but Szczur may very well be our top prospect assuming Brett hits the bigs in 2012.

Baker+ 2 of Jay, Flaherty, Rusin, Dolis, Castillo, Coleman, Castillo, Watkins, Cerda, etc. Is overpaying ad is, but if that's what it takes to get the job done, so be it. Szczur should not be on the table unless we're getting something else back as well.

I agree. It's really well done site. Very simple and clean. Never heard of hybrid blog software before, but I really like the look of it.

When did you start the site? I see you're ranking 156,000.. Do you tweet all your blogs? If not you should that number would decrease greatly in no at time at all.

Thanks - BN started in December 2008, and I started working on it full-time in May of this year. I do indeed tweet all my posts (

), and I put them up on Facebook as well (http://www.facebook.com/bleachernation). I do other stuff on Facebook and Twitter, also - just to keep them a little different/interesting. Not that I'm shamelessly self-promoting BN's Twitter and Facebook page, but since you asked...

Yeah, Ace does a very good job using social media for BN.

For one I don't believe Bret Jackson, Josh Vitters along with other prospects is too high a price. Save for Castro, I'd give up any combination of players and prospects, in Epstein were looking at someone who's going to change the direction of Cub baseball. A GM who values and understands how OBP correlates to runs which leads to wins - it's worth the price.

our

We can all be thankful that you're not doing the negotiations on the Cub side. There are probably 20 candidates who fit your definition of a GM worth the price.

According to the Score' Matt A. an announcement will come Tuesday, between a possible NLCS game 7 - Monday and WS game 1 - Wednesday. Furthermore, he mentioned Bret Jackson will not be a part of the compensation package hence, I guess it is a good thing I'm not part of the negotiations. Maybe you should be a part of them, who knows, with your input they'd been done yesterday.

I don't know if the negotiations would be over if I was part of the negotiation team, but I guarantee they would be over if I was Ricketts. As I posted many pages ago, Ricketts should have made a final offer and had a deadline. If the Red Sox didn't accept the offer or meet the deadline I would have hired Byrnes now, used the saved money and prospects on the 2012 team, and hired Epstein next year as president in charge of baseball operations.

I don't know, I think that the Bleacher Nation Love Thread is far more interesting than any news on some guy named Theo. Hey if want to hook the guy up, like him on Facebook so your friends might check it out. No publicity is bad publicity as we say.

I think the hardest thing for BN to overcome is its name--and the potential connection with (and resultant connotation of) Bleacher Report. I would guess that it is something you probably already thought of, though.

I retweeted Ace the other day and somebody got mad at me for using Bleacher Report(so they thought) as a source. Pretty sad people can't read two words.

Yup, it sucks, and, unfortunately, it happens not-too-infrequently. Had I heard of Bleacher Report back when I started the site (BN came just eight months after BR started), I assuredly would have gone with a different name.

Thanks for recognizing the (extreme) difference, for those of you who do.

I'm comfortable with trading Szczur, but I want it with him being a main piece for a good SP this offseason, not a GM. Edited by RammyFanny

Agreed. If you're going to trade a top prospect, you best be getting a good player in return. This isn't Bryce Harper we're talking about and he's not untouchable, nor should anyone in our organization aside from Castro and Garza. For instance, if we were to work out a deal with the Rays for a pitcher, I'd be OK with using Szczur to build a package around. Especially considering that our farm system isn't loaded with talent to trade if we do want to make a trade in the winter.

To be fair to Szczur, this is a different beast than Corey's situation.

If we're giving up Szczur, we better be getting some of Theo's assistants from the Red Sox.

Speaking of potential assistants, didn't Byrnes leave the D-Backs farm system in great shape when he was fired?
