It seems like a ghost town? I guess I can answer the question myself, as the Cubs have infuriated me to no end over the last couple of years, but is that a common trend amongst all fans? I remember when this site had a lot more traffic. Did they all just decide to post somewhere else?

Not exactly sure where this belongs, but it's kinda sad to see only 1 or 2 new posts a day?

Has there been any discussion on merging the "other baseball discussion" back with the Cubs discussion so there's just one forum for that? Like it was in the past?

There were also site issues for a while that prevented new registrations. Those have been resolved, but people aren't exactly beating down the door to find a Cubs discussion board at the moment.

It's just not fun to be a Cubs fan anymore. I still keep an eye on the scores and to a lesser extent the stats, but the only complete games I've watched all season are the 2 games I attended at Fenway. Losing is one thing, but looking like a complete joke out there is another. It gets too frustrating to me.

It isn't as much fun these days. Of course I was only in college back then, but even the bad 90's teams were a good way to kill an afternoon. Did Harry make bad teams watchable? Maybe so.

All that said, I will be watching this board very closely around the trade deadline. If we can trade for some young talent and we really are out of it, I will actually enjoy seeing how some of our prospects handle being called up. I'm sort of excited to go see the New Orleans Zephyrs play the Iowa Cubs this summer.

The franchise is in serious trouble.

Not just becasue the team is lousy.....it's been that way more often than not anyway....the problem is that no one cares anymore. The whole Cubs thing has gotten stale and uninteresting.

The 2003 debacle was crushing. And the fun of being a Cubs fan has slowly deflated ever since.

It is one thing to make the fan base angry.....it is another to bore them to death to the point of not caring.

Hard to do to the Cubs fanbase.....but somehow it has happened.

Not that it matters a whole lot......but I use to listen on the radio quite a bit. Moreland is a colossal bore.

Yep......real trouble brewing here.

The franchise is located in one of the top 3 media markets in the country, and nobody cares about our competition in the market. The franchise is in serious trouble only if they keep making stupid mistakes.

I've only caught bits and pieces of the games over the last couple of days, but man the stands have looked really empty.

They've kept making stupid mistakes for a long time now.

And yet the franchise isn't in serious trouble.

They are in worse shape than they were a decade ago.

That's why I went to Opening Day weekend. I knew after that everything would only go downhill.

The only time I watched a game from start to finish on tv this year was the 8th inning comeback Boston game. My interest in the Cubs is the lowest I've had since I started following the team.

Bunch of people are waiting to come back and care again. I'm putting all my hope into this off-season. I miss caring about baseball.

No, they absolutely are not. I don't even know how one argues that.

Obviously that would depend on how you define "serious trouble."

They are gradually shedding fans. They have a large payroll. 10 games back on Memorial Day will be a problem in terms of attendance. It will get worse if they keep losing.

It's not my money.....so it does not really matter to me. But a half filled Wrigley Field looks to be a sure thing. Now if it were my money....I would define that as "serious trouble."

The team finds itself in a new place. No real stars on the field that anyone really cares about. A bland unknown coach. The broadcast booth has become generic (for lack of a better word). And I think the allure of Wrigley is even on the wane.

The real problem is on the field. No one on the field makes you want to tune in.

Not good.

Even if they were, that doesn't inherently comprise "serious trouble" anyway.

Pretty easily. They were full of young pitching studs with a more respectable farm system. They were poised to lead the division for a decade, which of course they failed to capitalize on. The early 2000's were a very exciting time for the fans, loaded with promise. Not the case right now.

This is how I feel. My GF and a few of her friends went to the game yesterday, and despite sitting at home all night, when she came in the door I had to ask her who won. Not because I was too lazy to turn on the game or check the score, but because I didnt even think to. I just simply don't care. And I kind of wish I did. But I don't. As someone who previously placed a huge emphasis on sticking with teams through thick and thin, as I have done with past bad Cubs teams, and hating on fair weathered fans, it really boggles my mind why I don't care, and why so many others like me feel the same.

Anyways, for those fans who are not already long time members and actively read and post in the social forums, I don't see a point to hanging out and posting about the Cubs on this forum. It's not like we're actively looking for new posters, and the new ones that do come here and arent used to the NSBB style of posting will quickly leave when they present an argument that doesn't sit well with the board majority.

But he said they would only be in serious trouble if they keep making stupid mistakes. They have been making stupid mistakes and do continue to make them, there is no sign that the mistakes will end in the short term. There really is no assumption to make other than the same mistakes will continue until the front office is overhauled.
