Why for football? I'd think an open air stadium would be much more in line with the culture the B1G likes to brag about. Not that you can't ever have it at Lucas, but some rotation of all the NFL stadiums in the footprint(all of which are open air except Indy) seems like a solution that would help generate more attachment to the new title game.

Not all the NFL stadiums in the footprint are open air. Ford Field and the Metrodome both have roofs. I don't think the Big 10 really wants to perpetuate that culture. I wouldn't have minded a rotation too much though just to spread the wealth although Lucas/Indianapolis would be the best of the bunch.

Soldier Field is a piece of [expletive], Lambeau's in the middle of nowhere, Ford is in Detroit, and Minneapolis, Ohio, and Pennsylvania don't seem central enough to me.

Actually read the article now, I misunderstood, thought you were talking about them keeping it in Indy, didn't even know the alternating was on the table. I'll take it.

A full list of actions at the SEC meetings:

Mike Slive announced that the SEC has divided up $220 million this year with each school grabbing $18.3 million. That’s a record total.

-Slive says the SEC will take five proposals for roster management to the NCAA.

-The SEC will have “oversight” on medical exemptions.

-The SEC did pass a 25-man cap on signing classes, summer school enrollees will count immediately toward that fall’s scholarship numbers. Unanimous vote.

-Slive said that the NCAA “should and will” follow the SEC’s lead.

-The SEC has also nuked the exception allowing grad students to transfer into the league with less than two years of eligibility. The new rule takes effect October 1st. (Dubbed the Jeremiah Masoli rule) How many new restrictions reference Houston Nutt?

-The cowbells will get another year at MSU as the great “Cowbell Compromise” has been extended.

-The SEC did officially nix the use of divisions in basketball. A decision on future scheduling models is expected later this year.

-The presidents voted unanimously to ban 7-on-7 camps on SEC campuses and SEC coaches can no longer attend them.

I guess I don't understand the grad transfer rule (i mean, why the sec would outlaw it). If a kid graduates and is sitting on the bench for your school, why not let him go play a 5th year somewhere else? he's given you the 4 years he committed to giving you and he earned his degree. you shouldn't control him anymore.

I like the new restriction. I'm not sure exactly why the SEC ruled this way, but just maybe it was about the kids already on campus. Also it opens the door to some pretty loose definitions of student athlete.

One example:

Entering last season Ole Miss had a QB in waiting in Nathan Stanley, who went through spring practice and fall drills as the starter. Jeremiah Masoli, who had been dismissed from Oregon for disciplinary reasons, swoops in at the last minute and asks if he can attend Ole Miss to enroll in their Parks and Recreation program. He was cleared to play exactly one day before the season opener and quickly becomes the starting QB. According to the NCAA, “the waiver exists to provide relief to student-athletes who transfer for academic reasons to pursue graduate studies, not to avoid disciplinary measures at the previous university.” Perhaps this was to avoid the whole mess in the future.

Reason #573 why Houston Nutt is a shifty slimeball.

I know about Masoli, but you can't completely outlaw slimeballs. They're going to find loopholes and other ways to abuse the system. Punishing the kids who graduate in 4 years and don't have a role with their current team, or haven't been offered a fifth year by their current team, doesn't make much sense. This is an overreaction.

I suppose alternating is fine for basketball. It's a better event to attend in Indy if you're going to be there for a few days. It just seems completely different when IU is terrible and attendance depends upon them.

They could just outlaw the SEC.

Then maybe the Big Ten might win a title.

yeah, I now consider the 13-0 Auburn team that had Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown, Jason Campbell, Carlos Rogers, Marcus McNeil, and Jay Ratliff among others as the national champions that year...Oklahoma can share this championship if they must (although they looked pretty bad against USC.) Unfortunately, the BCS won't be reawarding this championship.

I don't.

No champion in 2004. Completely pointless to talk about whether Auburn or Oklahoma deserve it after it was taken away from USC. USC could have won that game without Bush.

yeah, this topic was covered ad nauseum if not here, then many other places prior to USC's appeal. wasn't being serious in my post..no idea who would have won between OU and AU, and I wasn't trying to spark debate.

I wish their was some innocent party that could sue Bush, however I am not sure who that would really be.

Looks like a non-starter to me. USC could've kept McNair in spite of the show-cause. Sure, it's a detriment, but show-cause doesn't prohibit you from working, it just requires the university to prove they have a reason to hire you/keep you on. If McNair's hands were clean and USC believed it, they could've shown it to the NCAA. Probably not worth the headaches to USC for a guy I'm sure is replaceable, but still.

Greg Schiano wants to replace kicking off with a 4th and 15 from your own 30. That's kinda awesome.

Schiano's gonna take some heat if he runs any onside kick plays.

"The most dangerous play to me is the onside kick," Schiano said. "It always has been. ... And it's getting worse and worse. What the kickoff team is doing on those onsides, the first wave of guys is just taking out people, and the second wave is getting the ball. That play scares the heck out of me."

interesting idea. 30 doesn't seem far enough back for most cfb punters, but maybe it is. seems like you'd get a heck of a lot of series starting at the 40 or mid-field, which shortens the field a bit much for my taste.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting but it sounds like your two comments are diametrically opposed. If it's not far enough back why are you worried about too many series starting at mid-field.

i misspoke. i think my preference would be to have 4-15 from the 35 or 40. but if the average punt would net 40+ yards, maybe it's fine.

A bunch of tweets that Pryor has quit the football team. Hey at least he got to play in the Sugar Bowl, have they already passed out the rings for that yet?

He should see if he can play in the CFL.

ESPN has confirmed it.
