I'm embarrassed to say that at one point in my life I valued anything Steve Stone had to say.

Was it "I think a breaking ball low and away will do him in right here."?

Make that man the GENERAL MANAGER RIGHT NOW!

Steve Stone wanted the Cubs to trade Aramis for Cesar Izturis at one point. And Steve Phillips just last year said if he was Washington, he'd trade Strasburg for Oswalt straight up. That about says it all for these two.

The latter is somewhat justifiable. Strasburg's arm was a ticking time bomb at the time, and it also exploded quickly. Who knows how he'll pitch when he gets back. One could argue that Strasburg's durability is unknown and/or is going to be poor, thus a trade for someone who has made 30 starts every year since 2003 while being extremely effective is a solid move. There's a high probability that Strasburg will be as good as Oswalt is.

That being said, factoring in contracts and the fast washington is a couple years away, i wouldnt pull the trigger. i just dont think it's a completely insane deal.

It is no way shape or form justifiable, that would be like saying we should have traded Kerry Wood in 1998 for Kevin Brown. Yes Oswalt is a good pitcher but the clock is ticking on his career and just cause a guy might have an injury in his rookie year doesn't mean he won't have a good career. I know you said you wouldn't do the deal but it is insane to even consider trading away a pitcher with that potential for a guy that might take you from a 60 win team to a 70 win team for the next 2 years.

This one was laughable, even for Stone.

I swear he's getting dumber every time I see something from him.

Yeah, there's being dumb and then there's just straight making things up, which is what Stone did here. Amazing. The thing about Ramirez not diving for balls is staggering. Aramis dives in the field regularly. As someone mentioned, that even caused the most significant injury of his career at one point. Stone is a clown.

Goony is probably right on saying that if Ramirez was white, he'd be thought of as a guy that's tough and plays hurt.

The Ramirez part was where my brain exploded. I can't believe that was committed to words. Seriously.

I had to stop reading to come back here and post....

Team President Clown Kenney?

Really?

Yeah, I read the quotes in this thread the day it was posted and only today clicked on the link. It's pretty bad. He takes hating Jim Hendry to a whole new level. I can't stand Hendry, either. But wow.

The more I think about it, the more disgusted I am by that article. What disturbs me the most about it is that I know there are thousands of mouth breathers out there who were shaking their fists, saying "Yeah Steve, you tell 'em!" as they read that steaming pile.

I think it's even worse that there are probably a lot of non mouth breathers who believe most of what he wrote is true.

its also disgustingly patronizing and quasi-racist so yeah

perhaps i'm projecting but i squirm everytime i see something like 'kicking out that great hardworking white player (mark grace) for some lazy latin player (literally name anyone denigrated in the article)'

I can't help but read into it a strongly racist vibe. He tries to hide it, but it's all about latinos being lazy stupid immature and in need of babysitters.

If Aramis Ramirez was the exact same player but white he would be lauded as a guy who plays hurt with regularity as a quiet leader and consistent performer who is poised for a bounce back year after his post surgery season.

It is disgusting how the old white guy population continuously jumps on this guy. Rozner, Stone, Rosenbloom, Kaplan, just a bunch of blatant bigots.

very well said

Methinks Steve Stone has heard himself referenced as the "smartest mind in baseball" just a few too many times.

Hey Steve! You look silly with Kenny William's balls stuck to your chin!
