So I'm confused. If the trade can't be consumated until the 8th, then who makes the 17th pick tonight?

Washington would tell the Bulls who to take. The risk here is what happens if the deal breaks down and dies? Then the Bulls are basically stuck with a prospect that they prolly would not have drafted in the first place. So......(knocks on wood).

Order your Joe Johnson and and Carlos Boozer jerseys now!!

I know what you're doing here, but a Rose/Johnson/Deng/Boozer/Noah lineup would still be awfully damn good.

The ESPN report says the Kings are ready to make a similar deal if the Wizards back out, but all reports are that the Wiz will make the deal.

I love it. We wouldn't likely get anyone good at 17 and Hinrich is mediocre and overpaid. Even if we didn't land a big fish this is a good deal.

Do we get anything back in this deal?
The deal can't be officially consummated until July 8, when the Wizards will have room under the salary cap to absorb Hinrich's $9 million contract without having to send back anything of similar value.

Judging by that quote, probably just roster filler.

Knowing nothing about this but what I read on other message boards, and only caring because I intend on bandwagoning like one of those girls with Kane jerseys at the Cup parade if the Bulls sign James, the trade still leaves the Bulls $2-3 million short of signing two max FAs. They could still move that last little bit of salary, or they could sign a max and a near-max.

If they can pull off Rose/Deng/LBJ/Bosh/Noah, I'm not sure why they'd bother playing the games next season.

Oh man, it can't be real.

LBJ + max FA + Rose + Noah? Someone tell me that's not a championship contender.

That's not a championship contender.

Surely you're joking.

Jeff Van Gundy, is that you?

Maybe I should stop talking hypotheticals. Watch them end up with Ron Mercer again.

Ohhh man E-Rob/Mercer/Artest/Chandler/Curry with Miller/Fizer on the bench. They might win more than 6 this time around.

It seems as if that can't quite work. Assuming James and Bosh get max deals, those five and seven minimum guys still puts them very slightly over the cap. They'll need to move Deng if they want two max FAs.

The Bulls has apparently cleared room for 2 max. The Knicks have done it. The Heat have almost done it.

There aren't enough free agents to go around. There are going to be some disappointed teams come July. I hope the Bulls aren't one of them.

I think the Knicks are going to be the ones disappointed.

If the free agents are smart (a lot of these guys probably won't be), then we won't be one of those teams that are upset.

Our situation is easily the best one available out of the teams with space to sign a big name FA or two.
