The Bulls has apparently cleared room for 2 max. The Knicks have done it. The Heat have almost done it.

There aren't enough free agents to go around. There are going to be some disappointed teams come July. I hope the Bulls aren't one of them.

If the free agents are smart (a lot of these guys probably won't be), then we won't be one of those teams that are upset.

Our situation is easily the best one available out of the teams with space to sign a big name FA or two.

I assume you mean Rose/Noah there. What does the future look like with those two guys' next contracts if they do sign two max guys today? Does Rose become a max guy, can they sign him? Do they give Noah big money?

The beauty of the NBA salary cap is that we can go over the cap to sign our own free agents. Give them as much money as they want, as far as I'm concerned when they're FA's.

It's all a matter of Reinsdorf being willing to pay the luxury tax.

If the reported Deng deal is true, I have to give major props to Bulls management. I've been pleading and begging for us to make these moves for the last two years. Now we can see these moves become official in the span of a couple of hours.

Max or near max FA I would live with:

1. LeBron James

2. Dwayne Wade

3. Chris Bosh

4. Carlos Boozer

5. Amare Stoudemire

6. David Lee

7. Joe Johnson

8. Rudy Gay

Am I missing anyone. There will be some disapointments but theres also a 2nd tier of FAs too.

I think you got your FA wish list mixed up with your players inferior to Rajon Rondo list.

If they can pull off Rose/Deng/LBJ/Bosh/Noah, I'm not sure why they'd bother playing the games next season.

I wished that they sent Deng out rather than Hinrich. If Deng is stuck on this team, he won't see the court if he sticks at 3. But it does strengthen the bench. If Deng remains, why not move LeBron to shooting guard? There is no way Deng can play the 2. He is too slow to keep up on the defensive end and he can't shoot the three. But LeBron could do both of those.

The Bulls just got a lot more enticing. They really have a lot more to offer than the Knicks. Yes NY can get two max guys, but now the Bulls can too and they have Rose and Noah to offer on the side.

http://dimemag.com/2010/06/nba-trade-rumors-luol-deng-to-the-clippers-joe-johnson-to-the-bulls/

Chicago couldn’t have dreamt up a better scenario. In their pursuit of LeBron James, it’s obvious that Luol Deng became expendable. Not only does he play the same position as ‘Bron, but also has a salary of $10.3 million. By 2013, that salary will rise to over $14 million. Now, they have a rumored proposition on the table that not only moves them up into the middle of the Lottery, but also opens up even more cap space.

ESPN’s Chris Broussard is reporting that the Clippers are willing to give up the 8th pick in exchange for Chicago’s 17th pick and Deng. The trade is very possible because it is a plus for both sides. The Clippers aren’t in love with anyone they could draft at No. 8 and could definitely use Deng. His game would mesh well with the dribble-heavy perimeter play of Baron Davis as well as the L.A. big men, Chris Kaman and Blake Griffin. This trade would create a starting lineup of Davis, Eric Gordon, Deng, Griffin and Kaman. That’s dangerous right there. The move would eat up basically all of their cap space, but no one was realistically going to the Clippers anyways.

For the Bulls, they would have a chance to take a flyer on the best player available at No. 8, and would be almost $30 million under the cap. As far as attractiveness, they can now show LeBron the chance to sign him and one other big free agent, as well as Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, a new coach and a great city to play in.

One interesting subplot of all this is that the Chicago Tribune is hearing rumors that Atlanta’s free agent guard Joe Johnson wants to commit to the Bulls very early in the process. He is friendly with Rose and Arn Tellem represents them both.

Johnson would be a great fit next to Rose and if Chicago is able to pull this deal off, it will give them perhaps the best shot of anyone at getting LeBron. Chicago is also talking to Orlando about a possible Deng for Mickael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat trade.

Here's another piece to add to the free agency puzzle.

According to ESPN, the Chicago Bulls are trying to trade Luol Deng and their No. 17 overall pick to the Clippers for their No. 8 overall pick. This would clear up some cap space and give the Bulls a higher pick. It's a win/win for both teams.

It was also said that Chicago is looking for two max players.

With some educated sources, supposedly the big-timers like Dwyane Wade and LeBron James have already decided where to go.

A "domino effect," as it has been called, should take place when LeBron and Wade choose where to go. This could work in the Chicago Bulls favor or against them.

If LeBron chooses to come to Chicago, an ideal situation would be Chris Bosh to follow him. Also, if this trade takes place, Xavier Henry should be on the board at No. 8.

Henry is a solid shooting guard straight out of his freshman year who could handle the Bulls' shooting problems and bring hard work to Chicago.

Again, this may not happen, but it's true that the Chicago Bulls are pushing to make a big splash.

This is a good scenario. An even better one, and in my opinion the best, is to trade Deng and get Pietrus. You have the tall shooting guard they have been looking for who is a pretty solid three point shooter who will constantly be open on this team. Rose, Pietrus LeBron, Bosh, and Noah. That is an INCREDIBLE team. Terrible bench though, but not as bad as Miami's.

I love the Deng + 17 for 8 rumor, but the 17 is supposed to be going to Washington, right

edit: question answered above, so I guess the hope is Deng for Pietrus + Gortat

I thought it couldn't be official until July 8th. That would mean to me that the Bulls can pull out of it if they find something better (like the Deng deal).

Considering this deal is essentially a "handshake" deal, I don't see GarPax backing out of it.

First of all we don't know how firm the agreement is, probably not at all until they make the pick for the Wizards. Secondly, if they get a chance to make the team better I think it would be worth ruffling some feathers. Not like the Wizards would be any worse off than they were before the supposed agreement.
