why does [expletive] koyie hill keep playing

We're in the middle of a whole bunch of days in a row and it was a travel day. Geo needs an occasional day off as a catcher.

Soto has started 12 of the CUBS 17 games this year; that's on a pace to start 114 games. I'm not sure I'd want him to start too many more than that. Last year he started 91 games, and in 2008 he started 133 games.

In previous seasons, how many of those starts were at DH?

Personally, I'm far more peeved with Lou's misuse of Marmol and the bullpen than his odd man love for Koyie Hill. Having said that, I don't know why he couldn't have given Tracy and Hill starts on different days.

Those numbers are games started as a catcher. I show no starts as DH in '09, and 2 starts as DH in '08.

I love Lou using Marmol in the ninth inning of an 8-1 game. The bottom of the eighth, I understand as Samardzija could have easily given up a three-run bomb to McGehee which would have cut the lead to 6-4. But it's ridiculous to leave Marmol out there for the ninth.

starting only 2/3 of the games is a really low number for a young catcher who's way better than the backup.

I would be more than happy to see Soto start 120-130 games a year. That's in the 75-80% range. When you get up much higher than that, you end up with a player that's really gassed at the end of the season. That's not how you want to go into the playoffs.

Yeah, I was listening to the Brewer's announcers at that point, and they were pretty much thanking Lou for making Marmol work on a night when there was absolutely no need.

Stretch of games with no off days, just pitched last night, and you are up 5-1 with 1 out in the 9th inning, why the [expletive] do you bring Marmol in Lou?

Because he almost needed him for a 4 out save and had already warmed up.

Who cares if he already warmed up. Let Marshall finish the 9th if he gets in any trouble then you bring him in, but theres no reason to bring him into that game at that point.

Considering that he was warmed up either way, the 2 batters he faced are of little consequence.

Pinch hitting for Soto in a tie game in the bot of the 9th with Koyie Hill? Completely unexcusable, and moves like this is exactly how managers lose your team games. Unbelievable

I DON'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW!

Really Lou? You are going to pinch hit Koyie freaking Hill for Soto with a man on base and nobody out in the 9th just to have Hill bunt. Really? That just happened? :banghead:

I hope someone asks him about it in the post-game. I'd love to hear how he defends it.

Nobody dares question the crazy old man.

Exactly. Ever since he raised his voice at the media last year or the year before, the media has kissed his ass and never questioned a move hes made. The media in this town doesn't have the balls to question the old moron

Or they, too, are incompetent and don't even realize it was a dumb move.

I'm sure Kaplan got hard over it.
