Fire Lou Piniella

He said Hill caught 2 games so Soto would be matched up with Zambrano and fresh.

He said he likes Hill's defensive skills.

He said Soto needs to hit.

I don't see the overreaction. Soto does need to hit. I'm not sure Hill is all that special defensively, but whatever.

And making his determination that Soto isn't hitting enough after 2 games is asinine

Yes that would be. I don't see sitting him a couple games as making a determination though. He didn't say it had larger implications.

That said, I too would like to see more Soto than Hill. I still think we will.

I try to take solace in the fact that bullpen management is by far the hardest part of the manager's job, and that Lou is great at the thing I care about most in a manager, managing SP workload. But Lou did not have his thinking cap on today.

Again with the defensive replacement for Soto, Lou? Seriously? In a 1 run [expletive] game, you take out one of your better hitters so far this year, for really no reason, as Hill isn't that much better than Soto defensively. Stupidity

This thread really needs its name changed to Lous a moron part 3. There will be alot more of his stupidity throughout this season.

Is it true that Lou just said he's going to hit Byrd leadoff and Theriot 2nd against LHP?

If that's true, it might be the dumbest thing Lou has ever done. Does he not realize that LHP are the only pitchers Theriot actually does hit?

Yeah, he does everything ass-backwards (and he's moving Theriot to 8th against lefties, not 2nd). He finally moves Theriot out of leadoff...except it's not to have Fukudome up there against RH pitchers. He moves Theriot out of leadoff...and replaces him with Byrd, who has an appalling OBP. And yeah, here are Theriot's numbers against lefties:

.301 .384 .422 .806

Great job, Lou.

Hmmm Lou says Silvas shoulder stiffened up, Silva says it didnt and he felt fine. Same old [expletive] different season.

Silva pitched six innings of one-run, three hit ball, leaving with a 3-1 lead. He threw only 71 pitches and retired 11 of the last 12 hitters he faced. But Piniella pulled him in the seventh, reasoning that Silva's shoulder had stiffened up.

Silva said he felt fine.

"I was ready to go out (for the seventh)," Silva said. "They take me out."

Silva's a cancer

Only problem was that Silva told Rothschild that he was sore. Silva apologized for his statement almost immediately after, but I guess that doesn't make for good Lou bashing.

I really hope Lou hasn't lost so much faith in his BP that he decides to stretch out the starters as much as possible. I get the feeling that, with a better bullpen, Dempster wouldn't have started the 8th today.

I really didn't have a problem with Dempster starting the 8th, to be honest.

I was back and forth on it. If this was an isolated incident, it's not a big deal. However, if it's going to be part of a pattern because Lou doesn't know what the hell to do with the bullpen, then I will be concerned.

I think it was more of a situational thing. Dempster was cruising and had set down 12 straight, and it was a cool day. That's about as easy as 115 pitches can be.

I was pulling for Demp as well but right when he went back out I told my brother I have seen this movie before.... Dempster is a good pitcher for 100-105 pitches but he generally loses his control after that, he has been stretched into 7 or 8 innings many times and has put people on base right away.

However, to me the true mis-management was with the lineup. The game was not 5-0 it was 2-0 so why in the HELL would Soto be taken out? Also I am fine with the defensive replacement for one of Nady or Soriano but those 2 should not have both been replaced.

Overrall I am not worried I have seen Ramirez with a ton of chances to help this team in the first 2 weeks and he hasnt. If there is a constant with this team it is Ramirez and he will get going to help this team into a winstreak.

If the team doesn't play much better by late May, how about firing Lou and giving Tram a shot?

Right now I'm having trouble seeing the point of this season unless it somehow helps set us up for the future. I'd like to see if Trammel can be decent his 2nd go around prior to making a decision during next offseason.

Late May still gives time for a team to execute a turn around.

While I wouldn't mind Trammel getting a shot, I don't see it. You would think maybe after the season, but the Cubs hard on for Sandberg can't be ignored. I don't think he will get the fair shot he deserves.

Once Ram heats up and the bullpen figures itself out though, I don't see Lou's seat being that hot.

The question is , Is Soto a Jerome Walton in the making? ROY then bust

Do you realize he's hitting .286/.459/.429 right now?
