I think those fathers are doing their kids a disservice. Not that they can't make the NBA out of the MAC or Horizon (and not that there aren't good teams in both leagues), but you have to assume they'll get better preparation (and def better exposure) in a high major league.

UCLA was supposedly runner-up for both. =\

ND scheduling tidbit: Mike Brey said at the team banquet last night that the Irish were 'likely' to play Kentucky next year (in the Big East/SEC Invitational) and were in talks to get Gonzaga to come to South Bend. Georgia Tech and Arizona State have also talked to him about a game for next year.

Combine those with the Old Spice Classic - which should at least get ND a game with a middling power-conference opponent - and the trip to UCLA and the non-conference schedule might actually be tolerable next year. With the tournament's likely expansion, it seems that Brey is a lot less nervous about playing some good teams before January.

Also, neither he nor AD Jack Swarbrick have been contacted about the Oregon job, contrary to some rumors that were floating around yesterday.

Wasn't it assumed McCallum would wind up at IU while his dad was an assistant there?

Of course. He was set to join a team of drug dealers and malcontents coached by a cheater (actually more than just one cheating coach). You don't think Indiana fans have moved on from that point? We were, en masse, thrilled that the swamp was drained. That swamp included Ray McCallum Sr. No bitter pill here at all.

I was thinking back to posts in the tournament thread that talked about all the Sampson era IU recruits/players that were thriving.

It's a little different when a player actually suited up for a team (and Bassett and Allen weren't Sampson recruits, anyway). Or even committed. McCallum was long gone and everyone had forgotten about him -- at least him coming to IU. Definitely no teeth gnashing for him.

I don't think this comes as a surprise, and maybe it's even old news, but in his chat yesterday, Klee indicated that Stan Simpson is not coming back next season. I know Illinois over-recruited for next season, but with Simpson, Legion, and Semrau all gone, does this mean that Illinois has two open spots for next season?

I don't think Joe Lunardi knows that most of ISU's team left:

I think it's absurdly silly to do something like this so early, because it's beyond useless. You could pretty much put whoever you want on there, because it doesn't matter.

Obviously. ISU was just so strange though. They went 15-17 and are losing virtually every good player they had.

Lunardi is a total clown.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Lunardi has never beaten NSBB's bracket right?

Don't think so. He regularly loses to at least half of the individual bloggers who do bracket projections too.

Lunardi is just like Mel Kiper. Both were ahead of the curve and kind of were pioneers in a niche that previously didn't have much coverage.

I still like Mel though.

Klee's been hinting at it for the better part of 2 months. There are 2 open spots for next year but there's not much out there (that we have a chance at) that are really worth stealing a scholarship out of the '11 or '12 class.

That's surprising because even I got a call about the job. My answer was the same one Mary Steenburgen gave to Ted Danson when he asked if she wanted to have sex.

What about James Siakam? He reclassified to '10. I know he was on Illinois' radar for class of '11, but I don't know how strong the interest was. Would he be worth a scholarship, or would Illinois be better off just hanging on to it?

I'm surprised there haven't been any rumblings about Siakam. I thought the interest was mutual. The 2011 class is loaded though, and we're supposedly looking decent with a couple Indiana kids in 2012, so maybe they see it best to roll it over. It is weird to not hear anything though, after Weber's public comments about getting tougher inside, which is pretty much all Siakam gives you.

Weber was at this year's State Finals in Indiana, so he's definitely looking at some Indiana kids for 2011/12. (Crean, Painter, and Roy Williams were there too -- I walked literally two feet by Williams.)

He's a 6'4" pf. I like his game, but understand why our staff has some doubts.

Illinois came in and checked out a couple JUCO guards in Iowa in the past few weeks but passed on both. Kaylon Williams (formerly at Evansville) signed with UW-Milwaukee and Kurt Alexander signed with Drake.
