Justin Hamilton, who said he was homesick and decided to transfer from Iowa State at the end of the season, committed to LSU today. He lives in Utah. Also, rumor is that Chris Colvin will announce he's leaving sometime this week. 1-15 conference record next year seems likely.

Chuck spoke directly with an official from the school and heard that he has a meeting set with Bruce on Wednesday, but there's no final decision or press conference set at this time.

Now, it's most likely that he is going to declare anyway, but apparently the report has been a bit exaggerated at this point. However, DMac has nothing to lose by declaring and attending a few workouts.

I imagine that meeting will consist of Bruce begging Demetri to stay.

Gabe DeArmond said that they were going to use Stone's scholarship towards 2011, which would mean someone wouldn't qualify this year. Apparently Green's an even bigger uncertainty than Mitchell, and given his shredded achilles I wonder if he never makes it to Columbia(which might not be terrible for him with the current roster).

Obviously I don't want to root against a player trying to make it to campus, but as long as Mitchell gets here I don't really care what happens with Green.

the big 12 north is actually pretty solid in basketball. unless you think kansas, kstate, and mizzou all suck at basketball. and if the recruits coming in play to their potential and the current batch of sophomores continue to improve, they will most definitely be a top ten team in 2011-2012. hell, they could be next year too.

Looks like JJ may go back on his word. Even if he declares he could still come back but I doubt he will because he is likely to be told he is a top 15 pick (whether or not that is a reality or not).

I'd caution people against having super high expectations for JUCO bigs. They are real hit or miss. For every Taj Gray or JP Batista, there are a million guys who do squat.

 

Also, with the advent of prep schools, the talent at JUCOs isn't nearly as impressive. Today's JUCO POTY just ain't what he used to be.

How so? They'll have possibly five seniors -- English, Denmon, Bowers, Moore and Ratliffe, a seasoned point guard and getting contributions from Pressey and Mitchell. They'll have guys who can score anywhere on the floor and have a defensive presence on the inside.

I'm not counting on Ratliffe to be Blake Griffin, he just has to be a productive big. To steal from RMN, they looked at 4 star JUCOs around Ratliffe's size, and there's been 12 the last 8 years. There were some hits(Taj Gray, Carl Landry) and misses(Jamal Nichols,Jamar Smith), but on the whole that group put up 11 and 6 in 25 MPG their first year. Something like that out of Ratliffe when the expectation a week ago that those minutes were going to Steve Moore and John Underwood is a very significant upgrade.

I saw him 8 on one site, but that site wasn't very credible. I don't think he stays in, but if he does he's late first early second tops.

Has Mitchell qualified yet? I keep hearing down here he hasn't.

Dmac is one of those guys who could shoot up the draft or could fall on draft day. I think he can become a very good NBA PG and is a top 20 talent but guys fall that shouldn't every year. Chase Budinger is probably the best example last year.

Hmm on the scout board they have a thread saying he's a 4 star. Oh well, I would imagine he could still end up at Iowa.

He very well could be. I don't really put a lot of stock in those aside from the guys with 5 or 1. I think his stock has fallen quite a bit because of the way he ended his senior season. Getting kicked off the team probably isn't the best way to finish your HS career.

 

Good high school players who come on the market in the spring are always attractive after schools have defections. Indiana went and checked him out the other night and it sounds like they'll offer. Florida may offer. Minnesota is interested. Brust has a bunch of offers now also including Wisconsin supposedly.

 

Brust sounds more likely to come back than Larson but if we get Brust, that will obviously help our chances with Cody. They'll be better than 90% of the guys available that we can get now but if they don't come I won't be devastated. Blow the whole thing up and let Fran start over with a boatload of scholarships.
