On the bright side, Nady's splits are very balanced over the past three seasons. He has an .800 OPS or above for home and away games, day and night games, and against RHP and LHP. I'm worried as hell about the injury, but I'll just hope that the Cubs staff did their job researching that.

As long as the injuries are in the past this is a very good move, adding an established hitter incase of injuries and to fill in as DH will be solid. Not to mention as he is no wizard in the outfield, he will be a hell of a lot better than Gomes or Dye.

Now Jim if you NEED to sign a veteran reliever please get Calero on a 1 yr deal!

Terrific signing. He may end up beating out Fuku. Good at 1st base and an adequate OF.

That's doubtful. Kosuke would run circles around him with the glove, and at best he might be a modest upgrade with the bat.

No doubt on D. But if Fuku slumps, Nady will play. You don't play RF in the majors cause of your D. Nady can hit. Also plays a solid 1B.

He doesn't hit much better, if at all, than Fukudome.

What is that supposed to mean? You act like Nady is a stud hitter. Defense is the big difference between them. Their offensive output is similar.

The fact anybody in this thread still supported Jermaine Dye is horrifying.

Defense aside, would you take Nady over Dye based on hitting alone? I wouldn't even if Nady was healthy, let alone coming off a second TJS surgery. Now I realize Dye is horrible defensively, but I hold firm to the position that you sign bench players for their bats, not their gloves. The only time this is not the case is when you're talking about backup catchers or defensive specialists like Blanco or Fuld. Nady is neither.

Nobody was supporting the idea of signing Dye for a fulltime role. It was an interesting idea in terms of a platoon with Fukudome and as a bat off the bench given his good numbers against lefties throughout his career, which continued through last year.

With an injury prone guy like Soriano in left and older players in center and right, having a guy on the bench who isn't a liability in the field is important, though. With the signing of Nady, if Soriano gets hurt for a month, we won't have to rely on only Fuld to replace him. If we had signed Dye, then we would have had the choice of starting Fuld every day or starting a DH in left every day.

Nady is the superior option for this team.
