Cubs Sign Xavier Nady 1/3.3 with 2 in incentives

ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine writes that the Cubs "appear close to adding outfield depth," and notes that a decision on Xavier Nady, Reed Johnson, Jonny Gomes, or Jermaine Dye "appears imminent."

My money is on Reed or Dye. Actually prefer Dye depending on the contract obviously

If we sign Dye, I'm pretty sure Fukudome would be the bench player and Dye would get the majority of the playing time

Well that would just be awful. I'm not sure I agree though, primarily because I think this version of Jermaine Dye is a worse hitter than Kosuke is, and I think Lou's intelligent enough to see what an oaf he is in the field.

I don't see anyway that Dye starts and Kosuke goes to the bench. If it's a straight up platoon Kosuke is going to get the vast majority, and I'm not even sure they'd start Dye against all LHP.

Gomes or Nady are probably the best options for straight up platoon roles, but I think Dye is our best option to have around if one of the starting OF (Kosuke, Soriano, Byrd) goes down for an extended period of time and we need the 4th OF (Dye) to be starting nearly everyday against LH or RH pitching.

well thankfully that debate won't be settled this season, since the cubs got nady.
