Well that's the 30th, not the 31st. And, does anyone really consider a parade 17 days before Fat Tuesday the "start of Mardi Gras?"

Well here in the city all the hotels are calling it the start of Mardi Gras season and all the stands that have been set up say Mardi Gras on it.

So Mardi Gras has started already then?

Not till the first parade on the 30th but that is what I have been told starts the Mardi Gras season.

DON'T QUESTION DA BUM WHEN IT COMES TO NEW ORLEANS.

Mardis Gras begins when they start getting ready for the holiday season, just like how Christmas officially begins whenever the hell companies start booking Christmas rates and advertising Christmas sales and putting up decorations. YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND.

Colts are my second favorite team (behind the Bears). Last time I couldn't really enjoy the Colts' title since it came at the Bears' expense, so this time I'm for the Colts all the way. Had it been any other AFC team I would have been for the Saints to win their first Super Bowl.

Just heard one of the talking heads on NFL Network say that the Vikings would have been a more difficult matchup for the Colts than the Saints because of the Vikings front four. Do these people even watch the damn games? Brees was hardly touched and Favre was hit something like 11 different times in the game.

Mardi Gras "season" officially begins on the Feast of the Epiphany, the 12th day after Christmas.

A good number of the Mardi Gras balls have begun. The parades have not. Our ball is this weekend. :old_givebeer:

NOLA area parades start on the 30th. All the big parades (Endymion, Bacchus, Zulu, Rex, Orpheus, Proteus) will be after the Super Bowl on Valentines weekend.

I'm going to be watching this game in a bar with some friends (God I hope we can find a bar that has the game on).

Saints win, I get drunk with joy.

Saints lose, I get drunk with misery.

Either way, it's gonna be an awesome night.

That was due to Brees, the design of the Saints passing game, and what the opposing defenses did. The Saints brought 6 quite a bit while I don't think the Vikings ever did. The Saints were blitzing in most passing downs and Favre was getting rid of it in time, but not quick enough to avoid the hit.

The Vikings only rushed four almost all game. If you watch the replay, he was getting hurried. It was the reason the Saints didn't go downfield more. He was getting rid of it quick and didn't have time to go deep. Allen never got to him but he was pushing Bushrod back in the pocket all day.

If you blitz against Manning he will pick you apart. You can hurry him but he's almost impossible to get to and usually makes the right decision on time. So what they're probably getting at is the Vikings could have dropped 7 in coverage and he wouldn't have had all day to scan. If the Saints rush 4 he'll have all day and if they blitz he'll get rid of it quicker than Favre did.

I'm guessing the combination of their frenchiness, the fact that they went to europe, the sympathy factor with katrina and the fact that Indy is basically all that Europe hates about the US, big fat white people eating terribly bland food.

Or maybe he just has money on them.

I don't really mind who wins this game. I have no rooting interest and I don't despise either team. I'm just hoping this game turns out to be a memorable one.

Go for the Saints. They are pretty much the Cubs equivalent in the NFL.

I'd argue the Saints are more the Mariners equivalent in the NFL.

Who let the lady in here? Food? Forget food.

What's everyone drinking should be the question.

Im making a big ol batch of Hurricanes. Someone is going to fall on their face at our party.

As far as length of existence you'd be right, but the similarities between the Cubs and Saints mostly have to do with the passion of the suffering fanbase. When that kick was made there were people crying all over the Superdome, some even weeping (it was quite disturbing to see grown men blubbering like that, although I was a bit misty eyed myself). If the Mariners went to the World Series or won it, I have a feeling you wouldn't see that kind of emotion. Whereas with the Cubs fans....hell ya.

That's a good question. Normally we try and tie in the cities involved for the menu. Obviously in this case you'd have to go all New Orleans, because Indy offers nothing. I need to get on that menu.

I'm debating wearing a Manning jersey to the party I'm going to because I'm probably the only one not rooting for the Saints.

Normally, I would probably root for the Saints, but too many people here were willing to bet on them and I think the Colts will win and I could use the money.

Oh well....

i really want to do something different than just the usual steaks and wings. Gumbo sounds good, but I've never made it before.

Red beans and rice might be good too. I have a recipe for something we call blend o the bayou and it is great!

Jambalaya is another possibility.

I think we're going to have a fix your own po-boy station where we have the poboy buns with fixings and your choice of fried shrimp, oysters, catfish or roast beef.

We did Jumbolaya last week. Thats pretty easy courtesy of an Emeril recipe.

I keep telling myself I'm not going to watch but I know I will. I did in '98 and the Saints aren't as annoying as those [expletive] Dirty Birds.

As far as the game I have a hard time thinking the Colts won't put up 28+. The Vikings owned the time of possession, sustained drives and still averaged 1 yard per play more than the Saints despite playing on the road and Favre getting killed. Peyton isn't going to get hit as often. The Saints obviously have a knack for creating turnovers but yesterday was more about just being completely careless with the ball.

The Colts pass defense is definitely better than the Vikings and we still forced 7 three and outs yesterday. Then again the Saints should be able to run the ball pretty well.

I can't believe we pissed that game away.

Unfortunately, playoff Brett Farve showed up...
