But when the NFL appologizes for essentially blowing a major call in a championship game, of which most likely would have changed the game dramatically, there is pleny of "measurable BS" for me to make that claim.

The Vikings had the game winning FG in their sights and didn't get it done. That no-call was a bad one, but the Vikings had a chance at making it not matter and messed it up.

Call it 'backing in' if you want, but the Saints win wasn't appreciably luckier in my mind than a slew of other close conference title games - the Colts 'backed into' Super Bowl XLI under this logic and it worked out OK for them.

i still argue that the first roughing the passer call (on favre's pass) was a bad one. the guy made a form tackle and favre's legs just came up off the ground as he was going back. there was no lift and plant motion by the defender.

I get why people would think the Colts are better, but the way some people are talking it's like it won't even be a contest. And that's just silly.

I definitely think that NO has a much better shot at winning than the Bears did. At least NO has a functioning (actually, elite) offense.

IMHO, it's the adjustments that Manning and Co. do at halftime that breaks the back of an opponent. They just seem to outright destroy a team in the second half, but not necessarily in points. That Defense of theirs, while not the best in the league, is better than NO, and they always seem to make the right adjustments at halftime. All those 4th Q come back wins this year aren't luck induced.

Which is the only reason I can think of that caused the ref not to throw it on the low shot. He was reluctant to flag two roughing the passer's on one drive especially if he saw the INT first.

I agree that the first call was weak. I think the non-call was a bigger [expletive] up than the call he made though.

so zero credit to the Saints D for causing those turnovers. Those balls apparently fumbled themselves to the turf.

The Saints forced, at most, two of those turnovers. The first Favre interception shouldn't have stood because of the late hit and the second was a stupid play. Then there was the Favre fumble on the handoff with Peterson. That's three that the Saints didn't force.

well i think a lot of these calls are a joke since you can't hit a quarterback high, low, after he releases the ball, lift him of the ground or put your weight on top of him. i don't really consider the "missed" call on favre a bad one because they shouldn't have called the first one, so it would've been a punt and basically the same outcome.

no way is it the same outcome, the missed (AND BLATANT) roughing call would have put the Vikings at the 19.

Didn't even bother to try to understand and argue what he is saying, did you?

As much as people want to bitch about the Vikings mental woes, the Saints weren't much better in some ways. They had 88 yards worth of penalties compared to the Vikings with just 32. 3 of the Saints penalties occurred on Minnesota 3rd downs resulting in automatic first downs, twice on the same scoring drive (Vikings 2nd TD).

umm...yea I read it. But after the called roughing the passer, AP managed to fumble the ball before they were that comfortably in FG range. not the same outcome.

What the hell are you talking about? The fumble was at the MINN 17, and he managed to gain 15 yards with the fumble, putting them at the MINN 32.

The penalty he is disputing happened just after that, and if it wasn't called, it would have been 4th and 4.

can't believe The Who are playing the halftime show. How tired.

and they're doing a medley, some of which will be mimed to over a track.

it's really embarrassing. they're not the same band without Keith Moon anyways. It's like when Zep plays without Bonham (granted his son is pretty damn good though).

I could have sworn that Pete Townsend was dead. Must have been thinking of John Entwistle.

Janet Jackson pretty much ruiined any chance of any non country music star under 50 performing at the superbowl ever again.

Saw that today. Helps explain why he wasn't eager to run on that last play.

They should have just retired the halftime show after Prince completely owned it.

it's funny because i was at that game but didn't realize how awesome his performance was until i saw it the next day. you couldn't hear anything in the stadium. they didn't really set up the sound for the stadium though.
