"Two killer QB's?"

Yeah, Brees is really good, but to sum it up like that is really understating that 1 of the QB's in that equation is Peyton [expletive] Manning.

We're not looking at careers. They are playing the game this season.

So yes, there are two killer QB's. I consider a guy to be a killer QB who set the NFL RECORD for completion % in a season this season and led the NFL in passer rating and TD's this season.

I'll state that without a doubt I believe Manning is the best QB who ever played in the NFL. However, if you are talking about killer QB's right now, then Brees is in that discussion.

There's still a difference in the QBs though.

of course there is. Peyton is a legend, Brees is a pro bowler (for now). I'm not arguing that. Both teams have exceptional QB's and I used the phrase "two killer QB's". That wasn't a straight comparison of them, just stating that both teams have killer QB's. Big deal.

I'll be really interested to see the mental battle between Peyton and Gregg Williams. Williams is a fantastic game-planner defensively and is a master at blitzing – even moreso than Rex Ryan. That said, there have been few defenses Peyton hasn't been able to figure out by halftime.

I'll be interested to see if Williams can keep things mixed up enough defensively to keep Peyton from figuring out what he's doing. I think the the answer to that will go a long way to determining who wins the game.

LOL, that was awesome.

Those Vikings announcers are usually good for a great call. I think there was another game where someone beat them on a last second pass and they're screaming "NOOOO!" Great stuff.

They lost to the Cardinals once on the last play of the last game to knock them out of the playoffs and I'm told that call is priceless.

The reason the Saints aren't getting as much respect as they might: They should have lost (two or three times) to the Redskins in week 13, 3 point win the next week, 3 straight losses (one against a very bad team) to close out the regular season. They then crushed the Cardinals and got an overtime win against a good Vikings team that turned the ball over 5 times (+4)

In other words, they've had one impressive performance in the last two months, since the November 30th Patriots game, and only two other above average games. If they play like they played in any of those games except the Cardinals game, they have little chance. They have the talent, but it hasn't been showing up often enough recently.

It was amazing to be at a bar with table of about a dozen Jets fans sitting next to us as we all watched Manning figure the puzzle out and put the machinery into place. The dude may be a goober, but he's also one of the greatest QBs ever.

Man do I hate east coast sports fans. From dancing on the chairs halfway through the 2nd quarter to getting in fights and thrown out by the end of the game.

Not to draw everything back to my team but it sounds like the Bears in 06. They started out really strong, everyone had them as the best team in football after destroying the former NFC champs (seattle), and blowing out some lesser teams by 30+ points. Then some flaws were exposed, the team didn't play all that great towards the end of the year. Finished the season by beating awful Tampa Bay at home in OT, beat the 2-12 Lions by 5 points on the road, and then got blown out by the Packers on New Years Eve to end the season. Even though during all 3 of those games we had the #1 seed in the NFC locked up and thus nothing to play for, not many pundits gave us a chance in the playoffs. Only about half of the media picked us to beat a real mediocre Seattle team at home, and then probably about 80% of the media picked the Saints to mop the floor with us in the NFC title game.

Of course this story does nothing to pump up Saints fans as the Bears lost the Super Bowl. But I wouldn't say Indy whiped the floor with us, even though we were outplayed. It was a 1 score game until midway through the 4th quarter when Grossman threw a pick 6. I think the Saints can win this game for sure. They've looked like a dominant football team at times this year, and if they can recapture that for the Super Bowl theres no reason why they can't win handily.

That said, I am not sure who I'm picking yet.

The Colts were hardly murdering people at the end of the season either. Their average margin of victory in their 8 wins since Nov. 1 has been 7.4 points. Saints last 8 wins since Nov. 1 has been 13.3 points.

The Colts came pretty close to wiping the floor with the Bears. You are correct that it was a close game on the scoreboard until the pick-6. However, while the Colts only won by 12, Vinatieri missed a field goal and an extra point. The Colts out-gained the Bears 430-265, and had 24 first downs to the Bears' 11.

They didn't wipe the floor. Chicago was in it until the end. The yardage isn't that meaningful, since that was essentially what the Bears were designed to do, give up yards but not the big play.

First, I didn't say they did. I said they came pretty close. And the Colts defense was designed the exact same way as the Bears, so I don't think that distinguishing on those grounds is terribly relevant.

Indy may have been designed that way, but they weren't as good at implementing that design. The difference was Indy's offense was much better, but Chicago defense was also better and that was a game throughout.

Oh, CCP (I'm not intending to call you out, I just don't want to dig through this thread to quote you): I disagree with you, and evidently Nate Silver, that kicking the field goal on fourth-and-goal was the incorrect decision.

I'm generally very aggressive in similar situations -- especially with the Colts -- but not against the Jets. Even with the un-Colt-like defensive performance in the second quarter, the Jets had a ceiling on the amount of points they are capable of scoring. The game was never going to be a shoot-out. (I also am unsure how confident I was in scoring, as running may have been hard and passing from the one always is.) In the Super Bowl against the Saints, the Colts sure as heck better go for it in a similar situation -- lots of points are likely to be needed. However, against a team like the Jets, you patiently take your points and eventually you'll have more points then their ceiling allows.

I think that's the one. It's 30 seconds of agonizing and screaming.

I actually think those guys are some of the best local NFL radio out there.
