Adam Schefter of ESPN reports, citing an unnamed source close to the situation, that Cowher is not expected to take a coaching job in 2010.

Well, if the Bears are stuck with Lovie another year, at least Cowher will still be out there. I know some of you (gooney) aren't going to be as happy about that as some.

That was smart of Cowher. None of the available jobs are really any good. He probably makes a million or so to give 5 20 second blurbs a week. I hope he wants the Bears job next year.

Jim Mora fired in Seattle

That's a stunner since he's only been there a year.

He's been there longer, he's just been head coach for only one season.

Still, I would have guessed Mangini would be gone, and Mora given one more year.

Shows what I know :)

Yeah, but the fact that he's been "groomed" for that position for 2-3 years before taking it made me think they'd give him a couple years or so actually in control. Since Holmgren was the guy who brought him in, though, I guess it makes sense that the new regime let him go.

According to Chris Mortensen, the Seahawks want Pete Carroll. And apparently Carroll is interested, and is trying to convince Jeremy Bates to come to Seattle with him.

That could have all sorts of interesting ramifications.

ESPN radio 710 in LA says that sources close to Pete Carroll: "You're about to see a big headline that shakes up the major college football world."

The radio guys here are surmising that NCAA might hit USC soon and Carroll is bolting.

Sounds like Carroll's about to pull a Calipari.

So is Carroll doing this because the [expletive] is about to hit the fan at USC with all the allegations?

Paul Allen is loaded and there is both a GM and coaching vacancy. Carroll has always wanted all the power (personnel and coaching) if he went to the NFL.

Via text message, Carroll said: "You know I haven't responded to a NFL question in two years."

Hopefully. Even if they aren't going to get smacked hard by the NCAA, I'm sure all of this is nudging him in that direction.

Ok so as the resident Seahawks fan, Mora was on a "Warm" seat. I think that he possibly could have stayed if they were able to get a GM that knew something but when The Philly GM fell through (He's with Holmgren now) and with the big names out there not jumping at the opening, the SEahawks can go get a better coach than they originally thought.

Mora made some dome decisions this year that never sat well with fans, media or players. He lost the team when the whole Kicker is an idiot thing and his devotion to Julius Jones when Justin Forsett is clearly better was ridiculous. Tim Ruskell (Former GM) is a pretty good draft scout but a horrible talent evaulator with Free Agents. Mora had no idea what to do with the talent he had and his offensive scheme never worked for the team. The Seahawks were built for a pass first option but Mora never bought into it.

As for Carroll, Count me in the interested camp. I understand the negatives about him and the reason for the general dislike of him on this baord but now is the perfect time for the Seahawks to experiment. They have 2 good first round spots and really have an aging team that needs loads of help. Someone can come in and overhaul it and the fans would have little expectations since we all realize the team needs a shakeup anyway. I would enjoy watching Carroll experiment and you never know, it could be a good thing.

Imagine Carroll, Bates and than a trade for Leinart. I would be OK with that and draft picks of Trent Williams/Eric Berry and CJ Spiller and I think the Seahawks have a start.
