Figured I'd put this here rather than in the College thread.

Yeah, I thought Kiffin was doing a pretty good job in Oakland until he was canned. Davis should have been more patient with him, just like he ought to be more patient with Cable. Five wins with that roster is a pretty decent job.

I agree. Plus they beat two playoff teams in Philly and Cincinnati and helped keep Denver out of the playoffs. The major sticking point appears to be Russell. Russell is Al's QB while Cable obviously isn't too fond of him.

Whoever the coach is next year is going to have to agree to play Russell because Al wants it to happen.

It's also hilarious that the meeting between Cable and Davis will take place whenever Al decides to show up - which is why it's been pushed back twice, Al hasn't showed up.

Yeah, Cable is not being fired for performance, he's being fired for not playing a QB with high potential but who has been dreadfully bad so far. If Davis wants the Raiders to get back to what they can be, he needs to quit meddling.

Chan Gailey has apparently emerged as the top candidate for the Bills' head coaching job.

Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com just tweeted that former Dallas Cowboys head coach Chan Gailey met with the Bills last week and is expected to meet with the team again today.

“Barring a breakdown 2day, he’s the guy,” tweeted Glazer.

Also, Mike Nolan left the Broncos.

According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, Nolan and Broncos coach Josh McDaniels decided to "mutually part ways," after working together for one season.

I don't get the Mike Nolan thing. Dude turned around a terrible terrible defense.

McDaniels doesn't seem like the easiest guy to get along with, maybe Nolan wants to look around for a new position or just couldn't put up working with McDaniels and would rather sit this year out and look for an opening next year than stick in Denver.

Poor Leslie can't catch a break. He supposedly always does great in the interviews and was supposed to be the leading candidate. After his defense shut down the Cowboys I thought it would be his.

Yeah, if the choice is between Gailey and Frazier, I don't know why you don't go with Frazier. Hire Frazier as the HC and Gailey as the OC, even.

The Raiders are trying to set a record for the longest time it's taken a team to decide whether or not to fire it's coach after the season ends.

Gotta throw Nolan in there as a DC candidate, right? I know he was running a 3-4 in Denver, but the paper this morning says he has experience with a 4-3 as well.

It sounds like the Dolphins are close to hiring Nolan as their DC. He interviewed with them almost immediately after leaving Denver.

Al Davis is currently bringing in Jim Fassell, Marc Trestman and Hue Jackson to interview for a head coaching job that is currently filled by Tom Cable.

Weird.

Raiders owner Al Davis has interviewed prospective head coaches for more than two weeks, two league sources told The Chronicle, in the event he decides to fire Tom Cable.

From this story. Basically nobody knows whether or not Cable is going to be fired or whether he is even still head coach. Nobody is saying anything about the situation.
