It seems like Missouri, Nebraska and Rutgers might be a logical trio to end up in the Big Ten, just cobbling together from a few different columns I've read on the subject.

None of those schools excite me. Mizzou would be sweet for the rivalry with Illinois, but academics are an issue for it and Nebraska. I also can't see Nebraska tossing aside it's old Big 8 Rivalries in football. Plus they add nothing in terms of television. I really don't see the benefit of either Big 12 school, unless it is to get the conference to 16.

And Bum, you are right. I probably shouldn't have quoted you, I was just laying out my best case scenario for the conference.

Yeah Delany said from the start that they won't add just to add so I really don't see the Rutgers. They bring very little to the plate. Nebraska is possible but I would put them as one of the favorites. Missouri is definitely one of the favorites to join whether that is adding 1, 3 or 5 teams.

Take it for what it's worth because this is just my podunk TV station in South Bend reporting this.

A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

I have to believe one of the earliest people to use the expression "There are no words" was probably speaking in response to something almost exactly like that. It is awesome in its sheer badness. It is so truly horrible that I feel like it will be ironically embraced.

Yeah, that's two small news stations reporting it in the past two days. I'll only believe it when it actually becomes official.

It should be noted that I fully expect it to happen, but I don't believe small Indiana or Missouri news affiliates have any idea what's going on.

I do not like that collection of schools. What is the point of adding Rutgers?? Nobody cares about them.

Yeah thats a very random collection of schools for a conference that has had the impression of being very picky in the past. Would be interesting to see the chain reaction that would follow after that.

SSR wants Texas, Florida, and USC.

I'd settle for Texas out of those three. :)

man, losing the missouri AND nebraska would put a hurting on the big 12. Hard to figure where a school like KU could land if the Big 12 splinters.

Simple solution, Big 12 avoids splintering by taking on the top schools from a smaller conference.

TCU and Houston would be logical choices.

I'd like to see them add TCU and Boise State.

Obviously that's what the big 12 will do (add top teams from crappy conferences), but that's a pretty lame conference, and I can't see it improving on the big 12s already terrible TV deals.

Doesn't the MWC actually have a good TV deal? I'm pretty sure they have their own channel and are under serious consideration for a BCS automatic bid.

They have that "The Mountain" channel that I always see on the TV listings but have never seen anyone have. They also have a deal with CBS College Sports network, I believe.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't know if I like the expansion of the B10 to 16 teams. 12 to 14 would be fine. Being a Big East guy with Marquette, frankly sixteen teams is too many (especially for football). While I certainly wouldn't blame a school for jumping to the B10 for the television money, etc, I think it sets a bad precedent. I can easily see the SEC, Pac-10, and Big XII expanding at the expense of the Big East and ACC.

Even that isn't what I'm necessarily concerned about. Schools like Marquette, Georgetown, etc would be just fine. What worries me is the potential for the BCS schools to leave the NCAA entirely to form their own league. I know there's been whispers about it. I'm not so sure these superconferences of football (since that's where the money is coming from) is a good thing. Am I alone in thinking this?

IDK if expansion is needed in college football, but it sure looks like we might have the superconferences. And I am opposed to superconferences.

It's good to have dreams.

When the Big 12 collapses on itself, we're going to look really stupid for taking scrub schools like Rutgers, Nebraska and Mizzou

Isn't the whole hypothetical of the Big 12 collapsing on itself based on the fact that the Big Ten would be robbing them of two teams? Kind of a catch 22.

Which is the threat you use to incentivize the top targets to come to you first.
