I'm trying to figure out what the hell is about to happen to Texas if this is true. If we miss on Texas for Rutgers, Mizzou, and Nebraska I'm not going to be happy.

So you'd rather the Big Ten have Texas than Mizzou, Nebraska and Rutgers?

I would absolutely prefer they add just Texas than those three.

Was that a serious question?

Sorry, I must've fell asleep and woke up in an alternate reality where Texas is meaningful in something other than football.

I can't wait for Missouri's admission to the Big Ten. This way their drubbing of Illinois becomes an annual thing in no danger of going away. Hopefully the switch happens in time for Blaine Gabbert to destroy the conference.

That would be normal reality.

For me, I don't understand why you'd want Texas, since no matter what teams are picked the Big 10 is going to be in great shape. Why add another 800 pound gorilla to the conference? It makes basketball more exciting?

Lol. I can't wait to hear Mizzou bitching about being disrespected by the original members of the conference. Hell Iowa's got to be thrilled by this development as they are no longer the back door to the Big 10.

Texas is the second most populous state in the union. Duh.

Yes, I understand why it makes sense from a business perspective. As an Illini fan though, what's in it for you? The Big 10 is looking great whether they add Texas or Pitt, so why pull for the school that ensures you never do anything relevant in football ever again?

Big time games in conference all year long in both basketball and football. They've got great fan support in Austin and they have solid programs. Why wouldn't I want to add that to my conference, if I am looking to expand?

Because you'll never do anything relevant in football ever again.

Texas didn't stop you guys from being relevant that one year you weren't picked for the BCS.

We also didn't play them either. You, I, Soul, or Hawkeyecub would not be so lucky with expansion.

Because it will bolster our academic standing. Bring more money into a university in desperate need of it, and make for an amazing college basketball conference. The addition of Texas could possibly help Illinois become more competitive in football.

If you look at the SEC, kids want to play there because of all of the great teams. That has a trickle down effect to the Ole Miss, Auburn, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt type of teams in recruiting.

Why would we have to play them every year?

Likely result of divisions.

Balance of power after the required IU-PU split.

Texas would've been the best team in the Big Ten that year.

If you're argumentative and hyperbolic with every post you make, no one is going to take you seriously.

LOL that's a pretty good one. Watching Rick Barnes lose continuously gainst Wisconsin and Michigan State would be amazing!

I'm a big ten fan in general, so I'd like to see this simply for entertainment value. Mizzou is worthless, and despite it's history Nebraska is quite dull. Rutgers is also fairly worthless, except for me personally I have friends who are alums and would be more likely to actually attend some college football games on a regular basis.

They also bring more athletic and academic prestige across the board.

It also opens the Texas recruiting up to Big 10 schools in a much more meaningful way, since kids across Texas will be watching Big 10 football.

But no. The smart person would rather focus on Rutgers and Mizzou.

I wasn't being hyperbolic; I just think the Big Ten was crap in 2007.

Missouri in the Big Ten makes sense.

What I'm not sure about is why they extended ND an offer when the athletic director has been saying only a seismic shift would make that happen. Pre-emptive move I guess?

In light of the statements coming from the athletic department, yes. Especially after all those reports that the Big Ten wasn't going to offer them anything and that they'd basically have to beg on their knees to get membership.
