I know our payroll is limited but I'm frustrated the Cubs didn't do more. And I really wanted Peavy...although many of your comments is making me feel better. On wait, I'm sorry --this probably didn't warrant its own thread.

I was actually worried he was going to overpay for an insignificant upgrade, so I'm not all that upset that we didn't add any more. The team has been playing better as of late, and definitely has what it takes to win the NL Central. Just have to get to the playoffs. It's been shown time and time again that the playoffs are a crapshoot.

Of course, it would have been fantastic if Hendry had the money to make a significant upgrade, but it doesn't sound like he did, so I have no problem with not adding anything other than the two lefties we got yesterday.

I'm just happy he didn't make a move for the sake of making a move. It's better to do nothing than to do something stupid.

Hendry did what he could do at the deadline, and I think he improved the team. I'm sure he will keep looking to add players through wavier trades. But most of all the Cubs need to get healthy and get a few of their good players going. It would also be nice if Fontenot or Baker got hot though.

I would have liked second base upgraded or to add a bench bat. However, the money simply wasn't there and the bats available weren't that impressive and likely wouldn't have been significant upgrades over what we currently have.

Thus, no, I'm not disappointed Hendry didn't do more. Given the external constraints, I'm pleased with what Hendry did.

Hendry's hands were tied, primarily by his own doing, so I'm not disappointed only because I assumed that there was no possibility of a big move from the beginning. I am disappointed that the Phillies and Dodgers both made more significant moves and the Phillies look like a very scary team if the Cubs do make the playoffs.

hendry didn't have much room to maneuver, so I really wasn't expecting much more than what got done.

You could say the Cubs looked very scary last year too but look what happened to them in the playoffs. The Phillies sure did make a very good team even better tho.

I'm not disappointed at all. I somewhat hoped that we would pick up Zaun without paying too much. A middle infield bat might have been nice too, but there really weren't many of those to be had. I definitely wouldn't have paid what the Giants did to acquire Sanchez.

I'm very relieved we did not add another Hendry stiff like Teahen or the like. We have a team full of these guys. I'm still miffed as to why we pissed DeRosa away in the offseason, however. To see the $ saved go to nothing but Bradley is a joke.

the money didn't go to bradley, and bradley's OPS will be above .800 by the end of the season. the money went to aaron miles, which is a joke.

Very true. Anything can happen, but I'd still prefer to be the team that looks scarier going into the playoffs.

I more disappointed Bradley, Dempster, Fontenot, Soriano, Soto, Marmol, Harden, Zambrano and Rammy (due to injury) didn't do more.....in the first half of the season.

Hendry put together a pretty good lineup that has under-produced until recently.

Absolutely not. Hendry recently said he expects players to be able to get through the waiver due to finanical reasons. So I don't think Hendry was worried about getting something done today. I hate the fact that there is such an early "deadline" time, but that is nitpicking. It wouldn't be shocking if the Cubs do pick up a guy like Teahen shortly in August.

GMs say that every year, and then every year almost nothing happens in August.

Really the ONLY position the Cubs need to get anything from is 2B.....

Hendry's greatest move since Aram and Lofton has been tying his hands with his own contracts this trade deadline. He can no longer mess up the team and will hopefully be fired in the offseason.

He won't be.

And you're wrong.

He should be fired for Aaron Miles at the very least. If not that, trading away DeRosa to the Indians for scraps, which ultimately put DeRosa on the arch division rival in one of the most embarrassing Cubs GM moves in decades. That move continues to haunt this team.
