Bartman Documentary Coming to ESPN

Because the dead horse hasn't been beaten quite enough, ESPN is producing an hour-long documentaryon Steve Bartman.

The revisiting of the Bartman incident and a look at its ugly legacy by Alex Gibney, writer-director of the Oscar-nominated "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" and the Academy Award-winning "Taxi to the Dark Side," will be part of ESPN's "30 for 30" series.

According to ESPN, Gibney will attempt to answer the question: Can Bartman ever forgive Chicago?

I think the better question to answer would be: can Bartman forgive national media outlets that can't seem to let this go?

I can't wait to see what awesome insight they are going to have on it this time. Maybe they can have Joe Morgan narrate.

Seriously, can't they just let this go for awhile. I'm not saying they should act like it never happened but it seems like every year they revisit it over and over.

1. It wasn't his fault. I don't know why ESPN, and fans can't understand this.

2. The only way I would watch is if they somehow tracked down Bartman himself for an interview. I would like to hear his side, see if he is still a Cub fan, and see if he has been able to move on with his life. I really feel bad for the way the guy was villanized and don't think it was fair.

I'd rather watch the Ronnie Woo Woo documentary while finding the story on how the dentist fixed his teeth for free more captivating than this waste of time.

Unless Bartman walked down the street in the same outfit as he wore that evening, would anyone recognize him?

He is still very much a Cubs fan. Talks about them all the time, and is very much up to date. He lives a normal life, doing normal things.

Will they do an hour long documentary on why Alex Gonzalez couldn't field a two-hopper to short ? Or maybe why Kyle Farnsworth gave up a 3 run double to Mike Mordecai ? What a waste of an hour...

I agree that those people are culpable, but their ineptitude does not completely absolve Bartman. He is one of many goats from that night.

I've said this since the day the "bartman ball" happened.

Are we truly to believe that a decrepid left fielder, who would rather kick a ball into the ivy to hide it rather than reach down and pick the damn thing up, would have actually made this web gem grab in the left field bleachers?

I ain' buyin' what you're sellin'.

LEAVE HIM ALONE CUB FANS

It's not Cubs fans who keep bringing him up.

Really?

This documentary is being done by ESPN, right? I only hear Bartman's name when someone is trying to make fun of me being a Cubs fan. Look, I was pissed at the time and I still think he was stupid for what he did. But in no way do I think he cost the team a World Series trip. If Gonzalez doesn't blow the easy DP ball right after that, no one would have ever learned Steve Bartman's name and the Cubs most likely would have finished off the Marlins in the 9th for the pennant. I feel bad that he still has to hear about that one play almost 6 years later.

We should start a letter writing campaign to stop this from airing. Get Vance behind it. We'd knock that [expletive] out and get NSBB some notoriety.

Either that, or we can get Bruce to write an article about how we're sick and tired of hearing about Bartman and just want the poor guy left alone at this point.
