I just read this in today's game recap and I am wondering what the heck he's talking about.

Harden had allowed 11 runs in his last two starts, causing some concern about his overall lack of consistency. But pitching on the road and at night seemed to help.

"I think there are reasons for it," Piniella said. "I'm not going to specifically talk about it, but if we can get him as much as we can on the road, I think you'll see good performances.

I realize that he's struggled at home and is much better on the road all season, but this quote suggests that there is a specific reason why he struggles at home. What could that be? He doesn't like cramped clubhouses?

ivy killed his parents

That's very close to being extremely funny. I just happened to have spent the night with a friend who's parents died (or were killed) when he was young. He didn't find it very funny, but I got a good laugh out of it.

Not sure what that means... take it for what it's worth.

I wonder if Piniella meant he is going to try to get Harden more night starts.....

If that's the excuse he has to use to get him more rest, fine. But he was fantastic at Wrigley and during the day last year, so it's unlikely that in and of itself, is the problem.

If you're not sure what this means...then the rest of us have no chance, bro

couldnt it be just as simple as he gives up a lot of fly balls? tougher to pick up the change up at night?

Sure, but he was perfectly fine during the day and at Wrigley last year, so why is it just a problem now? I think it's much more likely a health issue. He got more rest between starts last year than this season.

or something personal going on at home

That would be the weird thing, but it wouldn't make any sense. He pitches like crap cause his ladyfriend pesters him all day? Stay at a hotel. She's in the stands like Glenn Close shining from the sun? Have security ban her. If he's in the middle of a divorce or something, why would that only affect him at home?

If it was something relatively simple, I'd think Lou would have said what it was. Does he live in Chicago? Maybe he's having family problems and getting away from them (read: her) helps ease his mind to pitch better.
