how is "Toronto GM listening to offers" equal to "Halladay all but gone"?

They will trade him...

some time before FA begins in 2010. The offer will have to be big, bigger than the Peavy offer.

There was a report Hallday said he's not going anywhere. I assume that means he has a NTC of some sort.

10/5. He probably realizes the Canadian $ is worth more than the American and its worth staying an extra year and a half ;-).

It's not 2007 anymore.

Quantity never means as much as quality in these deals.

Isn't Harden Canadian? Would a package of Vitters, marshall, Harden, Wells, Castillo be enough?

1st, what does Harden being Canadian have to do with anythign? Secondly, noway in hell Id do that deal for a 32 yr old pitcher who has thrown a ton of pitches and innings. Thirdly, we need offense, not starting pitching, even with Demp on the 15 day DL

I would be upset if we got him via trade. He certainly would be the best pitcher on the team, but our pitching is pretty good as is. It would mean giving up Vitters for sure, which should not be done for a redundant position. We need a bat and another bullpen arm in that order.

Unless you have five starters better than him, it's not really a redundant position.

Not redundant, but limiting returns.

I don't quite get that.

The return is in the runs over his replacement, not in the overall team offense or defense. Until you start getting into the extremes of the marginal values of runs in high- or low-scoring environments, that is.

If you have the best pitching in the league with Shawn Estes as your fifth starter, and a mediocre offense of eight guys just below average, you are still getting more value by replacing Estes than improving the batting.

They have a very broken Rich Harden when everyone's healthy. When they aren't, it gets worse.

There's a ton of room for improvement there.

If everyone's healthy, how is Rich Harden broken?

Did you honestly not get what I was saying, or is that some pointless semantic dig?

Theres a lot of quality in that package. Maybe even a bit too much.

1 top prospect in the league

2 major league ready quality starting pitchers

3 of our top prospects

2 very young players with a lot of upside

We can throw Fox/Hoff in there for good measure I suppose. They are better suited for AL teams anyways.

I keep hearing people argue over whether or not to include Beckham in a Halladay trade.

But since he signed his contract in August he cannot be traded until that date rolls around, correct? Other than a ptbnl of course. Or is there a rule about when you hit the bigs he can be traded?

Listening to sports radio yesterday today on both 670 and 1000, i still dont get how people regard Beckham as an untouchable prospect. Listening Mully and Hanley this morning when the subject about trading Beckham for Halladay they both quickly responded by saying that they wouldn't trade Beckham in a trade for Halladay and then when comparing what the cubs could offer to what the sox could offer, they said the cubs dont have a beckham in their farm system. So Vitters quickly came to mind for me, I know Beckham is older but who of the two do you think GMs think is a better prospect. I'm not sure of who has the better minor league numbers so does anyone actually think beckham is the hands down better prospect or is this basically inconclusive for now.

Take anything Mully, Hanley, Boers, Bernstein, or any of the other radio bunch says with a grain of salt.

Beckham is a natural SS, and is proving he can hit, and hit well at the MLB level.

I would have a real hard time letting go of that.

Prospects are just that to me. Until they prove they can perform on the MLB level they're just a name.
