Castro performs this year and is dealt for Wheeler and Syndergaard.

That would be one [expletive] awesome performance to get those two.

If he performs well enough to net those guys, we ain't trading him.

..Mine is Olt/Baez/Alcantara/Rizzo with Soler/Almora/Bryant, with Olt being a consistent GG, .800ish OPS type ...

I'd love to see that from Olt, absolutely. I wonder if we don't overrate Olt's defense a little bit, though. At the Down on the Farm session yesterday, McLeod said that Villanueva was "hands down" the best defensive 3B in the system. So if Olt is "hands down" not the best 3B in the system, I'm not sure he'll be consistently best in the league.

Or maybe he will be. Maybe Olt and Villanueva are both better than anybody in the majors, and Olt will win gold gloves so long as Villanueva isn't in the league.

I mean...it's not like there aren't probably a lot of dudes out there who would be the best fielding 3B in the majors but can't hit anywhere near well enough to actually justify an everyday job.

I wonder if we don't overrate every single minor leaguer in history's defense a little bit, though.

My entire office enjoyed that I had my volume up when I clicked on that link.

@ProfessorParks: "On the Rise" prospects on the #Cubs BP list: Mark Malave, Paul Blackburn, and Rob Zastryzny.

@ProfessorParks: Based on recent conversations w/ industry sources, I think ranking Javier Baez #4 overall in MiLB is going to look foolish. Case for #1.

@ProfessorParks: Baez still comes w/ risk, but the bat speed is elite, the power potential is elite, and he can play on the left-side of the infield. #Cubs

I like Parks and all that, but I keep harking back to when Kyle called him out for catching up in the offseason and he was all like "We have scouts that provide us with information throughout the year waaaaahhhhhh Lindor is better than Baez"

And now he's saying there's a case to be made that he's the best prospect in baseball. Okay.

I ranked Buxton #1 on BP 101; Baez #4. Too late to change it but its never too late for regret. RT @rshekhat @ProfessorParks over buxton?

Blackburn and Stryz are kind of popular as pitchers who could elevate a lot.

Malave is a more interesting and surprising name. 80K/0 HR in 342 AB over 2 pro summers. Moved him from C to 3B, even though the system is desperate for catchers. He must have showed something in fall instrux.

@jontehBest I was very aware of the physical stuff, but its his mental approach this off-season that has helped. He wants it. Big time.

I believe he's been moved back to catcher. He was announced as making the move late last season along with a bunch of others, one of which was Gioskar Amaya who never made the move. He played catcher in his second to last game and then played there during instructs. Only had 9 PA in 4 games, went 4/8 with a walk and a K. I think it's his pedigree as a top prospect signing in 2011 (1.6 million) but more so his performance in rookie ball (.270/.381/.339) that opened some eyes.

Yes, he's struckout 80 times without hitting a HR, but he did so as a 17 and 18 year old. He's also walked 54 times in 402 PA, good for a 13.4% walk rate resulting in that very good OBP last season. At 6'3, 185 lbs., the power potential is there. I assume he's got some tools given his large contract. He has an advanced eye at the plate for his age, and is a switch-hitting catcher. He's on my radar.

I was afraid to open this thread today; I assumed I would find that Javy had been mysteriously stricken blind.

@ProfessorParks 1h

Of all the prospects on the upcoming #Cubs top ten list, I bet Arismendy Alcantara exceeds his projections. 5 tools and feel for the game.

Damn, some of these guys better come through.
