McLeod mentioned Bryant likely to start in Tennessee, Javy in Iowa at SS, Soler and Almora TBD.

I really hope Soler starts at Tennessee and Almora at Daytona. I think they're ready.

Out of character for the FO, but I wonder if it's POSSIBLE they start them both in Tennessee.

I don't think there's much need to skip Almora over Daytona(especially since he probably would like to play there at least for a short while).

Just for kicks, this means that we'll likely see:

Iowa - Baez, Alcantara, Villanueva, Vizcaino, maybe Olt

Tennessee - Bryant, Soler, Edwards, Johnson

And we haven't gotten to Almora, Vogelbach, or the next wave of slightly less interesting guys like Zastryzny, Ramirez Black, Pineyro, etc.

We really have a logjam at 3B. It'd be perfect if Olt truly is over his stuff and wins the job out of ST. If not though, do him and Villanueva just split time at 3B for Iowa, DH'ing the other games? Plus, I can easily see KB moving up midseason as well.

Yeah it will be telling when we see who gets the majority of time where. But I still think due to Olt's age, if he has a consistantly good spring training I can see him breaking camp as the Cubs primary third baseman. I can also see if they just wanna give him a month or so in Iowa before throwing him into the lion cage. I think Olt is ready though.

We don't have a 1B worth a damn at AAA do we?

I still think Almora can handle AA. I think he's one guy you can afford to be aggressive with.

I think he probably can but I don't think they will...at least not without a few weeks at Daytona first.

True. And Olt has played some 1B and OF actually. There was a time some thought Villanueva could stick as a 2B too. In both cases, our best case scenario probably has them each developing into a Zobrist type that can play a bunch of spots.

Bour would've been worthy of at bats, but he got taken by the Marlins in Rule 5. There will be room to go around between 1B, 3B, and DH. Fortunately neither Olt or Villanueva are in need of a ton of 3B reps to polish off that aspect of their game.

I kinda figured CJ Edwards would start the year in Daytona given he got less than half a season in there last year.

I figure if you want to make sure you pitch a guy on a set schedule to see how his frame holds up under standard duress, Daytona is the last place you do that.

Is that true early in the season, or typically much later? I would think Daytona would be the best place for him to pitch in April, and that the rain delays don't really start until May and really pick up over the summer. Give him 6 weeks in Daytona, good for 7 or 8 starts and another 35-45 innings (if not more).

I think its more likely they both start in Daytona. I don't know if keeping them together is still an issue, as they weren't together for most of last year.

Cubs senior VP of scouting and player development Jason McLeod said Wednesday that prospect third baseman Kris Bryant is likely to begin the season at Double-A Tennessee.

Bryant, who was selected No. 2 overall last June, batted .336/.390/.688 with nine home runs and 32 RBI in 36 games across three minor league levels last year and went on to win the Arizona Fall League MVP Award. Highly regarded for his power potential, the 22-year-old has a legitimate chance to stick at third base. He's on the fast track to the big leagues.

Can Rubi Silva play 1st?

Mooney's latest article says Almora will start the season in Daytona.

Makes sense.

He's gotta dominate Daytona

Then he can tear apart Tennessee

Then he can eliminate Iowa

Then he can Crush the Cubs (in a good way)

There's nothing particularly interesting here, aside from the lunacy of putting Edwards 7th.

You almost have to wonder if he switched Johnson and Edwards because they had an interview lined up with Johnson that's running today as well. I haven't seen many people besides him put Johnson ahead of Edwards.

But yeah, pretty dull rankings. The Steamer projections were even weirder (nice BAPIPs).
