#Cubs top prospect and #Smokies SS @javy23baez led all @MiLB with 111 RBIs and 75 extra-base hits in 2013. He was 2nd with 37 HRs @Cubs

Why he's ranked behind Lindor from most guys, who's ceiling is probably a slightly better Alcides Escobar, is so confusing.

it's likely so confusing because you aren't really attempting to be remotely intelligent with that comparison

age-19

Lindor (A+ & AA): .303/.380/.407 (.787 OPS), 10.6% BB

Escobar (A+): .257/.296/.306 (.601 OPS), 4.9% BB

Baez & Lindor are both allowed to be good players if they want to be

Yeah, I think Baez will be the better player, but I can certainly see how a 19 year old that projects as plus or plus plus defensively. With a top of the order bat, double digit homer upside at the most important position on the diamond, can be considered safer than a guy like Baez, who DOES have a few more questions. It's not the end of the world if Lindor gets ranked 6th and Javy 9th. I really fail to see why there's been such a hang up over something this inconsequential. Neither is getting dealt, we're just going to have to watch it play out.

Would this be fair? If Alcides Escobar is one extreme and Baez is the other as far as Defense vs Power...Would it go something like Escobar-->Lindor-->Machado-->Baez?

Isn't Lindor going to be Andrus with slightly more bat? Andrus has 25 pounds on him and everyone thought he was going to grow into his power (career ISOP of .073. An amazing .052 this year.)

Andrus was a career .086 ISOP in the minors. Lindor is .098.

Baez is .276.

Poor man's Elvis Andrus is how I was going to describe him. Which is great, everyone should want one of those. It's just not "CarGo with the ability to play SS", which is what Baez looks like at the moment.

Got this from another site. ESPN's future power rankings. Cubs are #6

The Overview

It's going to be another 90-loss season on the North Side, but good times are on the horizon. Not only do the Cubs have a smart front office and money to spend, but the combination of Kris Bryant, Javier Baez, Albert Almora and Jorge Soler might be the best quartet of hitting prospects possessed by any club. -- Buster Olney

The Dilemma

The Cubs have trouble getting on base, and two of the top free agents this winter -- Jacoby Ellsbury and Shin-Soo Choo -- would help solve that problem. The Cubs are expected to be real players on at least one of the two as they wait for their top prospects to develop, and they also could be a sleeper on Robinson Cano despite their denials thus far. -- Jim Bowden

The New "Guy"

Newly acquired right-hander C.J. Edwards would have been the name for Texas, but now Cubs fans can look forward to his midrotation-or-better potential thanks to a plus fastball and above-average curve. -- Keith Law

padremurph (San Diego): Looking into your crystal ball, who's your AFL MVP?

Jason Parks: Kris Bryant. When presented with the trophy, he will pull a baby goat from his uniform, slit its throat, drink its blood, vomit its blood, and then power drink himself to sleep while bitching about Javier Baez's prospect status. It will be perfect.

Javy Baez (Kodak, TN): What is my ultimate ceiling as a major league player? Do I have MVP pontential?

Jason Parks: I'd put a 7 on your ceiling and suggest you have all-star games in your future if everything clicks at the highest level. Clicking at the Double-A level isn't the same thing. If Baez clicks, he's going to be a monster player.

ZigZagBurners (Right near the beach): If I'm Brett Jackson, my next move is....

Jason Parks: I hear Japan is nice

Shawnykid23 (CT): Could Albert Almora see MLB in 2014? Is he a 15/30 guy in his prime?

Jason Parks: No. He could see the majors in 2015 if everything progresses smoothly.

JonKneeV (Indianapolis): What's wrong with Starlin Castro?

Jason Parks: Thinking too much. He's a natural hitter. He just needs to return to the comfort and confidence he once had

Travis (NY): Tottenham received $100M euros ($132M american approx.) from Real Madrod for Gareth Bale. What ML player under the same system would command that type of money?

Jason Parks: Probably Junior Lake

temple (madison): what kind of a ceiling do you see for the cubs alcantara. does he get replaced in a couple of years as Castro moves to second when Baez takes over at ss

Jason Parks: Second baseman of the future in Chicago. Jose Reyes-light, with less taste but not as expensive.

Aaron (stupidville): what does rig mean?

Jason Parks: My definition of #rig has traditionally been: "swagger, only more penis specific." But it can be nebulous depending on context.

jharrison3 (Illinois): Has the risk factor on Javier Baez dropped at all? I know the K's are still up there, but has he improved enough to be a little more confident in his future?

Jason Parks: It has improved, but he still carries a higher risk than most prospects at his level. It's just his overall approach that concerns some people.

I feel like he's poorly imitating a Sulley Kansas rant.

Holy crap, I am so in Professor Parks' head. I feel like IMB with a TV weatherman.

i'm suddenly reminded of the times you talked about your wishes to improve the levels of internet baseball discourse or whatever

you annoyed him for like four hours on twitter about how baez should be like the 7th best prospect instead of the 17th.
