I thought 5 was first division regular? Occasional All Star type?

Pretty sure that's 6.

Your breakdown looks right the more I look at it.

Cat Chat with Jason McLeod

Posted on August 1, 2013 by Kane County Cougars

Cougars radio broadcaster Wayne Randazzo spoke with Chicago Cubs Senior VP of Scouting and Player Development on Wednesday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark to breakdown the latest on the Cougars’ prospects and the Cubs organization.

Ha! I didn't know Wayne Randazzo was in the Cubs organization. I knew him briefly from his days as the Bay Bears broadcaster. He's a huge Cubs fan so it's fitting he's in the organization. Ironically, about half of the office staff for the Bay Bears were all die-hard Cubs fans.

He's on the score too.

EDIT - knew I remembered him from elsewhere too. He did updates during the earlier years of waddle and silvy on espn 1000. he's benn pretty all over the place on local sports radio.

Surprising to hear that Blackburn lacked control and had an inconsistent delivery. Kind of the opposite of what we've heard/seen of him.

He's been coming back from injury and is rusty. I wonder if that has played a role in how he looked, because the reviews prior to that were a lot better.

These guys aren't the first to fawn all over Yasiel Balaguert. He sounds like he's having a real breakthrough season.

Vogelbach was the Cubs July minor league player of the month and Loosen the pitcher of the month.

FWIW, Bleacher Report put out a revised Top Farm System rankings and had the Cubs listed #2 overall behind the Twins...

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1723741-re-ranking-all-30-mlb-farm-systems-post-trade-deadline/page/30

Since taking over prior to the 2012 season, Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer have quickly put together a monster farm system.

Highlighted by Javier Baez, Albert Almora, Jorge Soler, Kris Bryant and Arismendy Alcantara, the Cubs' system was already stacked with some of the more promising hitters in the minors before Mike Olt was added in the Matt Garza deal.

Even though it still lacks projectable pitching prospects, the organization has done an admirable job using the past two drafts to fill its minor league rosters with high-floor arms. And if the Cubs continue to add high-ceiling arms, such as C.J. Edwards, over the next year via trades, it may not be long until they boast the game's top farm system.

http://smokiesonradio.com/2013/08/04/javier-baez-showing-signs-of-patience-maturity-at-plate/

Working alongside hitting coach Desi Wilson in the past weeks on pitch recognition and driving the ball to all fields, the Cubs’ top prospect is beginning to show flashes of maturity at the plate.

“I’m working with Desi on recognizing the pitch,” Baez said. “If it’s not my pitch, I’m not hitting it.”

“We worked on seeing breaking balls off the [pitching] machine and that kind of helped Javy with his timing, seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand,” Wilson said. “We’re trying to get him to understand to be patient and selective and look for your pitch.”

Baez consistently found himself out in front of breaking balls in his first three weeks with Tennessee. But the shortstop’s conscious effort to stay patient at the plate has allowed for seven walks in his last nine games after racking up just three in his first 17 contests.

“He’s not going up there trying to attack that first strike because that’s a borderline pitch,” Wilson said of Baez’s increase in walks. “That’s just part of the process.”

Apparently McLeod said expect some promotions (not to majors) in next 7-10 days. Almora (if healthy), Bryant & Vogelbach are candidates, IMO

ESPN Chicago story made it sound like Baez to AAA was a possibility as well.

I'm good with those 3 moving up (maybe all together to Daytona). But I don't care if Baez ever plays in AAA. Nothing wrong w/ finishing the month off in Tennessee and starting next year in AAA, if necessary. I think AA is the better test for him w/ the lack of journeyman arms.

So Almora and Vogelbach get the rest of the year off?

Bryant and some of the Boise pitchers to KC seems to make the most sense. Jeimer/Vogelbach to Daytona as well.

No need for Candelario to move up. I'd just put Bryant to Daytona if you want the both at 3B. Jeimer's only 19 and hasn't exactly mastered low A.

You think they'd consider a Bryant to Tennessee move?

Yeah, that's what I expect.
