The Titans have signed UDFA Alex Mortensen from Arkansas - the son of ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Speaking of Mort. It's become clearer and clearer that he is getting lapped by the younger guys in the business. He had nothing to add to the draft discussion.

The draft isn't usually his strength, is it? He's normally more of a guy who uses his connections for roster moves during the season (scooping trades, signings, who's hurt, etc.).

He's always been an integral part of ESPN's draft coverage. But he's been less and less notable for a couple years, in and out of the season. He's gotten several stories wrong and flat out missed some major ones. And this weekend he was a non-entity.

I've been relying so much on NFL Network coverage that I hadn't even realized Mort had dropped off so much.

I switched back and forth. I did notice that Mort was kind of missing in action.

Gruden was making me laugh.

Not that it's directly draft related, but I feel better about the Dolphins not pursuing a pass rusher in the draft after discovering the 3 month old news that they signed Cameron Wake by accident. I couldn't even find him on the roster at any of the major sports sites, nor a mention at the major Dolphins fansites I peruse. How'd that go so far under the radar?

This was the first year I've had the NFL network for the draft coverage, and I really did enjoy that much more than Kiper and the gang...

Gruden was excellent I thought, and Rich Eisen beats Chris Berman any day of the week.

I'm surprised no one has picked up Derek Pegues yet. Kinda surprising that someone who is a back to back All-SEC DB would go undrafted much less still unsigned by anyone.

I wish Wolfert had picked a better situation than the Bears for a tryout. I guess he probably didn't have a wealth of options, but his only hope of making the roster is hoping Gould tears something. On the other hand, he essentially is Robbie Gould(extremely accurate without a huge leg for 45+ yarders), so maybe the Bears will like him.

schefter is jumping ship to espn, so the nfl network has taken him off the air.

That stinks I really like him. :(

I wondered what happened to him. He's definitely awesome at getting scoops and whatnot.

Ok, maybe I'm looking ahead too much but I'm thinking a bit about the 2010 draft and had a question for the west coasters.

If you had the choice between safeties for your NFL team, which would you prefer: Eric Berry or Taylor Mays.

I'd prefer Berry, but I'm not sure if that's my bias toward the UT player or not. Figured the west coast guys could shed some light on my potential bias.

Either way, next year could be an oddity of having two safeties go in the top 10 picks.

Mayock is so much better than Kiper it isn't funny. Also, I like that NFL network always has a couple of front office people on the set along with a coach or two. It is interesting to hear what the teams are thinking from people that have actually been in the situation. For example having Mike Lombardi, who was in the Raiders draft war room for many years, was quite entertaining whenever the Raiders made one of their idiotic picks.

Haha I was going to say this. He is Robbie Gould 2.0. Though I'd say Wolfert's leg is a bit stronger based on what I've seen (which consists of the Bears not letting Gould try 50+ yarders vs. Wolfert trying a few and usually having the distance but not the accuracy). Neither can kick the ball into the end zones on kickoffs on a regular basis.

Yeah, I agree on Mayock over Kiper. Charles Davis is also very good, though his UT ties may have me a bit biased.

Charley Casserly is a very interesting analyst.

How does a team accidentally sign someone?

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

Titans- Pleasantly surprised. Britt is a solid fit for the system. Marks could develop into Big Al's replacement. Cook could be a good pass catcher and Mouton was a solid sleeper in the mid rounds. Ringer could step in as LenWhale's replacement after next season.

Vikings- Also very happy. Harvin opens up a lot of options, and Loadholt could start right away. They got some great value here.

Berry without a doubt. But I agree both are top 10 prospects. Berry's pass coverage abilities are superior to Mays.

Yeah, I thought I heard questions about Mays' speed when he was considering leaving early, and there's certainly no doubt about Berry's speed. Mays, I believe, has better physical attributes (size, build, etc).

This has me wondering a couple things as well: what are the chances one of them could go #1 overall (especially with Berry's playmaking ability and his tutelage under Monte Kiffin this year)? And has there ever been a DB (especially safety) who has been taken #1 overall?

no DB has ever been drafted #1

Major Wright >> Eric Berry

Well not really. Wright could sneak in the bottom half of the first round though second round seems more plausible. The Gators will have a zillion guys called next year.

What makes Colt McCoy a better pro prospect than Tim Tebow? Is it McCoy's vaginal arm? McCoy can't throw the ball ten yards down field consistently. Tebow and the 2008 Florida Gators passing offense was one of the most vertical in college football. McCoy's and Texas' was the most horizontal in college football. I wouldn't take McCoy in the first two or three rounds.

Thanks. Didn't expect there was one - I wonder if it's justifiable?
