We just traded our 2008 4th ranked organizational prospect (BA) for Kevin Gregg.

Kevin Gregg.

If we lose Wood and this is our only replacement then our bullpen is going to be pretty ugly next year.

Ceda has shown a big drop in velo when he starts. Trust me, I was his number one fanboy for awhile (with him as my sig). Regardless of what BA ranked him, a future BP guy loses a little value in my eyes as a prospect.

Ehh...don't really like either player, but at least one has experience closing. Both have control issues that would have/will annoy me.

So? The Cubs system sucks, Ceda was one of the 4 best prospects in the system this offseason. He is worth more than Kevin Gregg in a trade.

Is Cashner still planning on starting?

This coming season, yes. But he could easily still end up in the pen.

Yeah, experience in sucking at closing

Hmm.. Considering the Padres just dumped an offer to Trevor Hoffman, and need a closer.. :-k

I was just thinking this myself. Maybe the Padres didn't want Ceda back in a deal for Peavy, for whatever reason. Possibly the perception that one of the main pieces to a Peavy deal simply brought back a guy they had already had at one point?

If I had to guess, this is part one of a possible 4 team trade.

how about a current BP guy that kinda sucks?

does this decrease the chance of landing hermida? i would guess that if the cubs wanted both they would have worked one deal.

Wait, the trade is done already? Aren't we supposed to read rumors about the trade for months before it gets done.

That only happens with players who are good at baseball

Maybe they wanted a guy who was ready for the Big Leagues. I'm not so sure Ceda is ready yet while Gregg is ready/will be ready.

How is it that Hendry agrees to any trade proposals with the Marlins? This is the second time he's been hosed.

But he has also hosed them

Lee for Choi was a salary dump. Not sure that's the best comparison.

And Willis et. al for Alfonseca/Clement is debatable.

I wish I had that faith. I think Hendry's afraid he can't afford to re-sign Wood and wanted a "proven closer" as insurance.
