Looking to fill one of its biggest holes, the Cubs met with free-agent outfielder Milton Bradley, a source linked to the negotiations told ESPNdeportes.com.

The source informed that the meeting took place Sunday night at a hotel in Las Vegas, but did not report if the team made a formal offer.

Bradley, 30, batted .321 with 22 home runs and 77 RBI in 126 games with the Rangers in 2008.

Is anyone else concerned that Bradley couldn't handle deal with the media for a major market team? This is the same media that goes overboard against Ramirez for supposedly not hustling enough.

I'd be more concerned with how he handles Wrigley fans, who'll start booing him after his first 0-for-8 stretch.

Why would they do that?

Because they've (i should say we've) boo'd every player with high expectations that's gone through any sort of bad stretch since 2004.

And some with low expectations.

I guess. Would the average fan of the Cubs have huge expectations for Milton Bradley though? Most of them probably don't even know who he is.

I was a little unclear - I just meant that if he goes through a rough patch and gets booed, he may not handle it well. Didn't mean to say it would definitely happen.

Jesse Rogers on the Score hinted that the Cubs could be in intense negotiations with Bradley and Ibanez but Bradley makes more sense financially due to the baggage he brings.

Average fan of the Cubs? I'm pretty sure they'd know who Milton Bradley is. His hot-head ways are pretty well known, especially after the incident at the end of 07.

Even the average dude who goes to Wrigley just for fun might know about that stuff.

How often is Bradley going to go 0-8 batting between Ramirez and Lee?

Bradley is NOT Jacque Jones.

Bradley is what we need on this offense.

I suppose so. In all honesty I don't really know much about the "average Cub fan" because I post on a message board with you nerds all the time. ;)

Not that Milton Bradley isn't a great player, but I don't consider him to be a household name across the league. Though I guess that would make it true that the common fan would know him more for his antics than his talent.

Seriously. Soriano-Fuku/Johnson-Bradley would be a great OF. If we keep DeRo, he could spell Bradley and give him time off to keep him healthy (I'd treat him like Harden, to be honest). Otherwise, Fukudome could it as well. I hope Hendry gets this done.

Am I the only one confused by this quote?

Bradley will come cheaper than his talent level would suggest because of his injury and temper tantrum baggage.

That's what people are suspecting.

Also, Levine just said that Bradley seems to be plan A in the outfield for Hendry.

Great news. Hope it's true.

I imagine Bradley getting 3/30 or so. I could see Ibanez getting 3/36 or 3/39 because he's less of an injury-risk and less of a headcase

Bradley played 20 games in the outfield last year.

Awesome. Get Bradley please. I'm willing to take a gamble for a potential 1.000 OPS. And I'm not that worried about his knee. Or his attitude. No more than Z's shoulder or attitude. Just the usual hope and a prayer...

Sign him up, though. And get him a shrink if he needs it.

Bradley + Peavy would pretty much be my dream scenario for the offseason.

I really haven't followed Bradley closely other than his stats and his headlines until he came to the Rangers, since I live in Texas. But at least for the Rangers he was a passionate player and a ferocious competitor. He was also a lockerroom leader in Texas, because his teammates appreciate his intensity. One of the reasons they didn't dump him at the trade deadline is they liked the leadership he brought to the young team, and kind of became a mentor and father figure to Hamilton in particular. I think the Wrigley fans would like his intensity ... the editorial writers and umpires could be another matter.

The only problem I would see is the Cubs also have a tempermental, head strong, volatile and emotional manager. I could easily see Lou and Bradley in a Dibble-esque lockerroom wrestling match at some point in the season. But then again Lou seems to handle Z pretty well.

Maybe with Old Lou, but with Cubs Lou I think he's a much more even-keel, laid back guy. He's been ejected what, two, three times with the Cubs? I can only remember the one time his first year and the time against the Sox this past year, but both times it felt really forced, IMO. I think him and Bradley would be fine.

Stark says the Cubs and Mets are now the frontrunners for Ibanez. I don't really get the Mets interest in him, they are so lefthanded already it seems like they should be going after a righthanded bat, Delgado, Chavez, Murphy, Anderson, Schneider, and Church are all lefties that regularly play for them.

The Phillies, Mets and Cubs appear to have separated themselves from the pack of teams pursuing outfielder Raul Ibanez. Ibanez also is on the radar screen of the Braves and Angels. But the Braves have their pursuit of all their outfield options on hold until they find out whether they can sign pitcher A.J. Burnett. And the Angels would pursue Ibanez only if they fail to land their primary offensive target, Mark Teixeira.
