hey this is wierd. good for this kid.

When 6-2 Florida State visits 6-2 Maryland on Nov. 22, there's a decent chance the game could decide the ACC's Atlantic Division. Unfortunately for the 'Noles, they may be without one of their top defensive players.

This may be the rare occasion where that's considered a good thing.

Last summer, I wrote a feature about Florida State safety Myron Rolle, an accomplished student-athlete who was applying for the Rhodes Scholarship, the most prestigious academic honor an American undergraduate can receive. Each year, the Rhodes Trust affords 32 students from across the country the opportunity to study at England's Oxford University. It is believed that no major-level football player has won the award since 1985.

Yeah, I'm happy for the guy. And we (FSU) can use all the good publicity we can get.

I wish the scholarship committe was a bit more flexible with something like this, or at least the NCAA. I can't believe the committe won't reschedule his interview, and I'm 99.99% sure the NCAA won't let him take a private plane or booster jet to the game (since they're so worried about the student-athlete).

FSU and Rhodes Scholar don't exactly belong in the same statement :-)

Except he would be our third. :)

Is the TCU game on tv?

I don't find it on my DirecTV listing.

ESPN says its on CBS, which its not. Thought maybe VS or Fox Sports Southwest, but nope. I live freaking 30 miles away from TCU, figured I would be able to watch it tonight. Oh well.

It's on CBS College Sports, which used to be CSTV I think. I doubt you get it unless you have an expanded sports package or something.

TCU's defense might be better than any defense in the Big XII right now.

I think you might be right. This season they've given up 3, 7, 14, 7, 35, 7, 7, 7, 7, 14, and 6 points so far tonight. The 35 was to OU, which is tied for the least they've scored this year. And it's not like they're doing this against bad offenses, BYU and Utah are both averaging over 35 ppg. If they hang on it will be interesting to see if they get in over an undefeated Boise St, who's giving up under 10 ppg themselves.

EDIT: Or they can give up a TD drive after I talk about how good they are.

I was at BW3's watching the Browns and this game was on too. Some wild Ute fans were celebrating at the end.

Great game, and hopefully Ball State can jump TCU in the polls. Next step would be Utah losing to BYU.

Unfortunately the odds are against you being proven wrong, and I doubt stomping crappy Big Ten bowl team no. 7 in the Motor City Bowl would change anyone's mind

dude theyd finished 8th or 9th in the ACC, maybe worse.

This can also be written "they'd have a legitimate chance of winning the ACC".

no, no they would not

Sure they could, there's one, maybe two teams that can't win the conference right now.

yup. duke is 1-3 and n.c. state is 0-4 in conference; the rest of the teams are within a game of the division leaders. those division leaders are georgia tech, who beat gardner-webb by 3 points, and maryland (lost to middle tennessee st), wake forest (lost at home to navy) and florida st (lost at home to wake forest, scored 3 points).

i say that they could have a competitive game against the acc in a bowl game because the acc and big east because those conferences don't have any really good teams. the bcs teams from the other major conferences would kick the crap out of ball st.
