it's like the 4th time he's changed his mind on a playoff

coincidentally each time he changes his mind his new version seems to favor the sooners

That's the big problem I have when sportswriters cite what coaches say when the sportswriters argue for a playoff. Of course a coach who gets screwed out of a shot at the title is going to say he'd like a playoff, just like a coach whose team gets a spot in the title game over a team just as deserving is going to say he likes the system.

If Alabama, Tech and Penn State all run the table this year, I guarantee the coach of the team left out would complain about the BCS. If two of those teams lose and there are a bunch of one-loss teams in there, the coaches of the teams that don't go to the title game are going to complain about the BCS.

if you match up wins (assuming UF wins out)

Florida beats Alabama, which is a comparable team to Texas and superior to Texas Christian.

Florida trashes Georgia, which is a comparable team to Texas Tech.

Florida trashes Louisiana State, which is a comparable team to Oklahoma State.

Florida trashes Miami, South Carolina and Florida State, which are comparable to Kansas and Missouri and probably TCU too.

Win for win Florida outdoes Oklahoma and Florida has whooped up on the teams. Oklahoma hasn't played them, but considering how poor their defense is, they won't be able to stop Mizzou, Texas Tech or Okie State enough to make it an eye popping game. Just because you guys keep saying the Ole Miss is a bad football team, it does not make it true.

I still don't think the UF-FSU game is going to be a cakewalk this year.

And for the record, I’ve just received a tip that one of Tennessee’s largest boosters spent the day golfing with former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher. I think I’ll take that one with a pretty big grain of salt. But heck, this is the internet… so I’ll throw it out there to see how many messageboards pick it up.

That's a heck of a rumor . . . :-))

From MrSEC.com - a very good website for those who are interested in the goings on around the SEC.

For the record, John Pennington is an imbecile. Maybe Cowher would have interest (and yes, I've heard the rumors since the day he left Pittsburgh), but Pennington is still an asshat of epic proportions.

Cutcliffe and Spurrier are off the Tennessee list.

Damn and $6million for the buyout as well.

Fulmer confirmed Monday at a tension-filled news conference at Neyland Stadium that he would not return next season -- and made it clear that it wasn't his decision to step aside after 17 seasons at his alma mater. He will be paid a $6 million buyout.

"He's probably 16, 17 years there, probably long enough. It wasn't working very well, so I think everybody understands when it starts going bad, they've gotta make changes," Spurrier told The State.

"But congratulate him on hitting that lottery ticket. That's a big ticket he got," Spurrier said, adding, "I don't know whether to feel sorry for coach or congratulate him for the biggest buyout in the history of college football. He got the best deal ever, I think."

You've gotta love the Ol' Ball Coach for his back-handed compliments.

Ron Prince announces resignation, effective at end of season

was he forced out? if so, lame.

Why? He's Willinghamming that program.

Yes he was forced out.. actually bought out of his contract. The initial reports of a resignation are incorrect. I'm listening to the presser now! All I can say is....THANK GOD! You are exactly right, he was Willinghamming us! I have a feeling based on what I'm hearing from my donor friends that you'll either see Snyder back or will see either Gary Patterson, Levitt, Bielema, Franchione (no thanks) or Dimmel (no thanks) as the new head coach.

I really think Florida will walk over them. That being said, I think FSU is solidly one of the top 20 or so teams in the country. They're probably #2 in the ACC, behind UNC. The difference between FSU and OSU is pretty much non-existent in this little place I like to call reality.

Ball State tonight!!!

You're going down, Flames.

GO CARDS

Third real team that NIU has played this year and it's the third time where NIU's defense has given up over 28 points. Hey, at least we beat the bad teams though.

I knew Ball State was going to win, but NIU was really embarrassed tonight. I was at the NIU-Ball State game last year watching a terrible 2-9 NIU team hang in there with a bowl-bound BSU team in front of about 14 people, so I figured they would at least be motivated to come out and put up a fight tonight. Whoops.

Hopefully your boys go undefeated now.

i'm pretty sure bill snyder willinghammed it before he retired. they went 9-13 in snyder's last two years, and 5 of those wins were over bad non-conference teams. being as the program was already sliding backward when snyder retired, is it reasonable to expect prince to have had them turned around in less than three years?

Yeah, I'd like to hear Truffle's rationale for keeping him.

Oh, and tadow, would you really be behind re-hiring Snyder? He kind of phoned it in at the end of his tenure, and he's what, 10000 years old?

If he does it'll be to rebuild the staff.. not long term. We'll hire an OC such as Dimel or Venables and have them be the coach of the future like Bielma was at Wisconsin. That's the only way BS comes back in my opinion and from what I'm hearing. In that case, I dont think it puts us out at all.

No question Snyder phoned it in toward the end, and he'd also lost his top assistants. But he left the program in good health, despite his record the last two seasons, and the team still had decent talent and an okay foundation. They also had a good rapport with the Kansas High Schools.

Prince has pretty much ruined that. His record has gotten progressively worse, and they even had to buy out of a home game against Fresno State this year because they knew they couldn't win it. And they needed a bowl bad.

As far as recruiting goes, Prince has been a disaster there. I'd need tadow to confirm this, but I believe he's pulled schollies from local kids more than once at the last second, instead offering them grayshirts after they'd essentially committed. He also over recruited JUCOs, bringing in 19 last year. Many didn't even make it to campus. The program is now thin on legit talent and is facing inevitable massive JUCO turnover.

He's also allegedly impossible to work with. His assistants have jumped ship left and right. I believe there were even rumors he made his coaches run stairs after the team performed poorly. Finally, he's lost to KU all three times, and that doesn't fly in Manhattan.

KSU is a school that absolutely NEEDS a competitive football team to have a viable AD. They don't have the donor base of a lot of BCS schools, and they can't rely on a national power basketball program like KU. If they let KU become the premier football school in the state--which is basically the case at this point--they'll be facing hard times.

Ball State was awesome. I expected them to win, but I didn't expect such a blowout. Next week should be a cakewalk over Miami, then things could get interesting at Central Michigan. Conceivably BSU could go 11-1 in the regular season and not even play for the MAC championship, if they lose at CMU and CMU remains undefeated in the MAC. I believe all three remaining regular season games are on The Deuce.

YES- THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY THE CASE! He's ruined MANY relationships with high schools that Snyder built.

VERY TRUE AS WELL!

hey this is wierd. good for this kid.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/stewart_mandel/11/06/rolle/index.html?eref=T1

When 6-2 Florida State visits 6-2 Maryland on Nov. 22, there's a decent chance the game could decide the ACC's Atlantic Division. Unfortunately for the 'Noles, they may be without one of their top defensive players.

This may be the rare occasion where that's considered a good thing.

Last summer, I wrote a feature about Florida State safety Myron Rolle, an accomplished student-athlete who was applying for the Rhodes Scholarship, the most prestigious academic honor an American undergraduate can receive. Each year, the Rhodes Trust affords 32 students from across the country the opportunity to study at England's Oxford University. It is believed that no major-level football player has won the award since 1985.

Yeah, I'm happy for the guy. And we (FSU) can use all the good publicity we can get.

I wish the scholarship committe was a bit more flexible with something like this, or at least the NCAA. I can't believe the committe won't reschedule his interview, and I'm 99.99% sure the NCAA won't let him take a private plane or booster jet to the game (since they're so worried about the student-athlete).

They are, if an onscreen graphic was correct. WMU was supposed to be on 360, but appears to have been picked up for ESPN2.

I don't exaggerate when I say Ball State at Central Michigan, if both teams win their next game, could be the biggest game in the history of the MAC (insert joke here). A 10-0 Ball State vs 8-2 Central Michigan would be a great matchup even before adding in the angles of CMU being the two-time MAC champ and the third Nate Davis/Dan LeFevour collision.

FSU and Rhodes Scholar don't exactly belong in the same statement :-)
