It was a blast, I love postseason baseball!!!

Edit: Actually it was horrible. The crowd felt like they were waiting for the Cubs to lose from the first pitch. Honestly, I don't blame the psyche given what happened last year. If the Cubs would have won last night, tonight's game would have been absolutely rocking. We need to get past that psychological bump of winning a postseason game.

I actually saw the guy next to me cry after the grand slam. Crying in the 5th inning of game 1 of a playoff series. Unbelievable.

I was there, and I don't think it was as bad as everyone is trying to make it out. I was sitting in the upper deck of the bleachers above the batters eye, and the place was packed and the game started off like crazy. I have been to 6 games this year and it was by far louder then any of the other games.

There were a lot of older people at the game as well as some yuppies that didn't want to get spilled on or be to crowded, but that is going to happen when the cost of these games get to be so expensive.

The walks were killing the fans because there is nothing to cheer about, and after the grandslam it killed the crowd. It was as if the players as well as the fans were on pins and needles and everyone was expecting something to happen. But, I am tired of hearing about how the fans did not show up for the game that is just a bunch of excusses.

Crying because of the other team doing anything is pathetic. The only way I'd cry in baseball is when the Cubs finally win it.

I already know if the Cubs ever make the World Series I'll be crying whether they win or lose.

I didn't cry, I was pissed as hell, numb nuts couldn't throw a strike if his life depended upon it and what does Lou do? Stick with him after issuing his 7th BB to load the bases, didn't have anyone up to start the 5th, you know I thought Dempster was going to walk in the first run. If that had happened I'll bet the dumb ass still would have stuck with him.

The strike zone was pretty tight. Not to make excuses, but some of Demp's pitches in the first couple innings looked pretty good, IMO - yet they were called balls. Oh well....

This is true... I won't blame the umpire for a 7-2 loss because the offense had no chance to score 7 runs based on that strike zone. But that umpire was one of the worst I've seen all year.

I think the cold contributed to it some, but the number of lengthy ABs early on and the number of walks by Dempster really seemed to kill the crowd. However, I'm not sure I've been to a game with two louder moments than the DeRosa HR and the strikeout with the bases loaded.

Overall, though, it wasn't quite what I had expected for my first playoff game at Wrigley. The crowd seemed nervous. After the grand slam, the energy just collapsed.

I was in the RF bleachers. Different, older bleacher crowd but definitley into the game 100%. No one left for potty/beer break unless it was bewteen half innings.

I think the 6 straight post season losses played a part with the crowd. Also, really nothing to cheer about after DeRo's HR besides Aramis' double and Jimmy's near home run. The walks and cold also zapped the crown IMO.

I was there, and yeah, it was annoyingly dead. The worst part was the occasional booing of Soriano and Ramirez in my section. Wtf?

Yeah, booing your own players during a playoff game is dumb dumb dumb.

The bleachers were moderately loud from teh first pitch. Especially when Manny hit into the DP in the 1st. It also got pretty loud after DeRo's HR.

The GS killed everything though. It was absolutely dead after that.

The crowd was pathetically quiet I thought. My little section of the bleachers (behind Manny) seemed pretty good, but the crowd overall sounded dead -- even before the GS.

I agree completely. I'm as frustrated with Soriano's playoff performance as anyone, but I still realize that he isn't trying to strike out and nothing good can come out of booing him. Trying to send a message in the regular season is one thing, but now isn't the time for that. The playoffs are a time to embrace and root for the Cubs for what they are, accepting their flaws and hoping they can overcome them.

I was there last night. Section 215, which is infield terrace between 3rd and home. The media in Chicago is making way more of this then they should.

First of all, the crowd was very loud. When De-Ro hit that HR, the place was up for grabs. They were standing and urging Dempster on when he whiffed Eithier in the 3rd and then again when Loney had two strikes in the 5th.

It was only natural that the crowd had the air taken out of it after the slam. Not only that, but we have seen this movie before.

The crowd tried to get back in the game but the Cubs did nothing to get us back in it. When we got into after A-Rams leadoff double, they proceeded to not score.

The crowd was into it, the team didn't perform, which lead to natural angst.

Well said.

I actually didn't watch with sound, so I can't comment on what happened last night, but it was obvious that fans weren't going to be going nutty until or unless the Cubs did something to make it interesting. A rally, or some shutdown relief work would have helped, but they did nothing.

i actually said something about how quiet it was to the guy next to me. it was the top of the 4th inning...he agreed. you could feel how nervous the crowd was. even the reaction to the DeRo homer was somehow hollow, like the crowd could feel what was coming.

I was apprehensive when the game started, but I didn't expect the rest of the crowd to be. When DeRo hit the homer, memories of 2008 came flushing over me, and suddenly I got the confidence I had in the regular season back. But when the offense did nothing the next 2 innings, I started counting the outs, something that's never good to do in the 4th inning. Honestly, until Loney hit the HR, I expected Demp to get out of it. But once that HR was hit, I felt like I got punched in the stomach. Suddenly my confidence turned into extreme pessimism, and you couldnt convince me the Cubs would come back

I was watching the whole game with sound. There's no way you can tell me that crowd was as consistently enthusiastic as a normal Wrigley crowd even before the grand slam.

Earlier in the year, you'd see the crowd on its feet every time a pitcher got to two strikes or the Cubs had a runner on base.
