I'll probably watch for a few minutes tonight, but I'm taking some mental health time away from baseball right now.

I'm expecting a wild October and need a breather to get ready.

call me nostalgic and lame, but I would really like to win 100 games, despite it being unnecessary for us, of course. Admittedly, it would add obnoxious fodder to the national media, but it would still be cool for the sake of coincidence to win an even 100 games and win the WS 100 years since the last one.

Theres a lot of talk at Brewerfan about Gallardo rejoining the rotation.

http://brewersfandemonium.yuku.com/topic/13662?page=14

Seriously, Lou, give Z and Harden the week off and send out the worst lineup you can. I really dont want to have to deal with Sabathia, Sheets, and Gallardo in round 2, if it comes down to it. do what we can top give the Mets that Wild Card.

lol you're worried about gallardo starting a playoff game?

this move reeks of desperation and not much else.

and i doubt sheets will be very effective if he even pitches in a playoff game

This doesn't make much sense to me.

Who would you rather face other than a tired CC, a hurt Sheets, and a recovering Gallardo? We've beaten the Crew 6 of 7 games recently, right?

Living in NY = ESPN blacks out this game

SNY it is :(

From what I've seen, SNY's HD feed is just fine. I prefer local announcers to ESPN's national crews most times too.

I don't see the problem, but maybe you have more experience with that channel than I do.

No offense, but you're worried about an essentially a 1 pitcher team in Milwaukee? No offense ElCaballo, but as mentioned, Gallardo hasn't pitched in a ML game since May. Sheets is injured and could miss the rest of the season. Which leaves on CC Sabathia, who hasn't exactly been impressive against the Cubs in his 2 starts against them this yr. Any possible rotation for the playoffs for the Brewers would CC/Suppan/Bush with hopes that Sheets can go. So, like a few others, I don't buy into your anxiety against the Brewers.

I'd rather face the Mets, personally, but I wouldn't tank just to get them in. I think both teams are about even, but the Brewers are slightly better.

But really, I think the Cubs can beat either.

I guess right now, I'm not really *fearing* any of these teams. To me we're a better ballclub than any of them. I would probably choose the Mets. But I won't be making excuses just because we draw the Dodgers -- we should beat that ballclub.

Bottom line. I think we're the class of the NL and we should be beating any of these teams. If we don't, that's on us -- not the "draw" we got.

So, I noticed that the Mets fans have a nickname for Oliver Perez. It's "Big Game Ollie". Um, where the hell did they come up with that? What big game has he ever won? Maybe I'm forgetting something.

He pitched six innings of one-run ball in the Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS that the Mets lost. HUGE performance...

I wish Z weren't starting tonight, and I really wish Harden weren't starting tomorrow. The Mets are our most likely first-round opponent, so why give them a preview of our best pitchers just a week before it becomes real? Especially when the majority of Mets haven't ever seen Harden.

If Z has to pitch tonight, lets hope for a quiet six-inning, 75 pitch outing and a big Cub victory.

He started game 7 of the NLCS in 2006 and went 6 innings giving up 1 run. I guess that's where it comes from?? They didn't even win that game. Oliver Perez has a worse ERA+ than any of the 9 pitchers who have started a game for the Cubs this year.

He also has a knack for coming up with big outings against some tough opponents (Philly, Yankees) and then crapping the bed against weak teams (Washington, Pittsburgh). It's more about his inconsistenct but occasional dominance than any one big playoff game (he's only pitched in 2 in his career).

If Edmonds doesn't get a start vs. Perez, he's not ever starting against a lefty

Nor should he. Edmonds vs. lefties the last 3 years...

Remember this time last year, when the Cubs were laying a big, fat egg down in Miami and we were all flipping a Howry?

Man am I glad we don't have to do that this year.
