Is it safe to say the Fukudome contract was HUGE mistake?

No.

He is putting up Jacque Jones #'s.

I'm not ready to write the guy off, but if Seattle or NY (either) will take him for something decent, I'm okay with that.

It's also his first year playing in the bigs.

yeah, i knew there would be an adjustment period for him this year, i just thought that he would get better as the year progressed, not worse...

oh well, i am still really not that worried about him, i have a really good feeling that he will be one of those guys that comes through for us when it counts down the stretch and hopefully in the playoffs

The rest of the league took a couple of months to figure him out, now he needs the time to adjust, too. Although he is a professional veteran, Fukudome is a rookie and will go through some of the same things that rookies go through over the early parts of their career. I wouldn't get too worried yet.

That excuse is lame, IMO. He's 30 years old. It's not like he's a 20 year old kid who has 12-14 years of solid production. He hit well in April and has been mediocre at best 3 1/2 months. JMO.

The fact that Fukudome was an all-star shows how ignorant a lot of the voters are. He is a below average major league hitter, especially as a corner outfielder.

I didn't know .276/.376/.409/.785 was considered "below average major league hitter." I wish I was considered "below average major league hitter" because then I would be getting paid.

No it's not safe to say that. It may not be a favorable contract right now, but it's not a mistake. So can we save the overexaggeration.

Jacque Jones got on base at a much worse clip than Soriano even in 06 when he had 20-something homers, though at least that year he had the slugging. In 07, not so much.

Jacque 06: .285/.334/.499/.833, 108 OPS+

Jacque 07: .285/.335/.400/.735, 87 OPS+

Fukudome 08: .276/.376/.409/.787 104 OPS+

Hideki Matsui put up very similar numbers at a very similar age his first year in the bigs in 2003... .287/.353/.435/.788

Lilly's throwing strikes like Rich Harden was the other night: 38 pitches, 30 strikes.

Fukudome providing absolutely no protection for Ramirez.

It's back to the 8th spot for you, Fuku.

9 spot would be good for him.

Bat the pitcher 8th, get somebody on base for Sori, theriot, and lee.

batting the pitcher 8th is supposed to result in more runs anyways

The radio call on that HR was awesome... "swinnnnng and a home run."
