1 - GoCubsGo!'s pet nicknames for everyone he hates have never been funny. They add nothing to your argument and make you look twelve.

Listen to what dumbwood says, he speaks the truth.

2 - I don't understand why you guys gang up on RedIvyCub every time she posts here. Is it because she tells you something you don't want to hear? How do you so casually dismiss the fact that she was working in the front office every day and maybe, just maybe, has a firmer grasp on the inner workings of baseball than you do? It's embarrassing how you guys treat her.

Didn't she swear up and down that the team was Canning's?

She's been off on pretty much every fact she's given us about how the ownership situation will play out, but she comes coming back with a condescending tone because she knows the Red Sox groups combined. This isn't privleged information, everyone knows how the Red Sox deal went down. The fact that that worked for them(and the Nats I think), doesn't mean it will work now. Shockingly these tremendously rich people aren't all eager to dump a ton of money into something only to not be the guy who's even the head of the team.

I just find it ironic that when someone posts information without a link/source, they get jumped on, but when RedIvyCub posts the source of her information, no one believes her. Maybe she will be wrong about the ownership situation, but she doesn't deserve to be driven away every time she speaks up.

I think some of the questions that are being asked of RedIvy are appropriate, but some of the attacks are inexplicable.

I don't think she is claiming to "know" what will happen - its pretty obvious that she is simply stating her opinion, which is informed by the fact that she worked for or around these people for several years. Take it with a grain of a salt like all the other insider info that comes out on this bd and through the press.

I hope RedIvy continues to post here so that we can have an insider perspective on some of the peripheral issues involved here.

In my opinion, it's the absolutes without details, like USS mentioned. For anyone on this board, if you say something with conviction and state it like fact(Crane Kenney is inept, Bob Howry is a terrible pitcher), people who disagree, or simply would like to hear more about it, question that person for details(here's Bob Howry's craptacular ERA). Problem is that RedIvy can't/refused/didn't have details for those convictions, so all the posters here are left with nothing but that original declaration. In general, if you want to say something as an absolute, be prepared to detail your position. If you don't want to or can't divulge that information, then the original statement needs to be much more tempered. In essence, saying "this is the way it is but I can't say why" acts only as an irritant to others. Just my 2 cents.

Come on Derwood. RedIvyCub makes declarative statements as if she's standing right next to Bud Selig and then can't back any of them up when pressed, and then reverts to either playing the victim or ramping up the condescension.

She should either be prepared to back up her statements, or be prepared to be called out.

It's funny you left out any accomplishments of McFailure during his tenure with the Cubs. His record here speaks for itself...an utter disaster.

Yup, real clever and mature of you.

Very mature of me for stating facts? Are you arguing that his tenure was a success with the Cubs? What metric are you basing this on?

Perhaps based on the fact that the Cubs made the postseason twice during his tenure, which is equal to the number of times they made the postseason in over 50 years before then? I'm not saying his tenure was a complete success; there were good moments and bad moments. But to call him a complete failure is way off base.

You have pretty low expecations for success I guess.

She also seems to base a lot of her "facts" solely on how she or her friends were treated while they were there. That makes it hard to separate the useful info she might have from stuff completely colored by her negative experience.

So I guess I'm saying her objectivity is in question. It doesn't help that she says things like this:

Heck there are players I don't like but if they can play the game and they help my team win. I am not adverse to those players being on the team and would be upset if they were gone especially if it hurt the team.

When just a week or so back she said she barely watches the team anymore because she dislikes many of the players on a personal level.

I didn't say I considered his time a complete success. I just said it wasn't the utter failure some people make it out to be. Sure I want more. I want a championship just like everybody else does. But I do think some progress was made under MacPhail, not just two playoff appearances but also a greater percentage of winning seasons than the Cubs have had in quite some time. It was time fo him to go when he did, and things have gotten better still since he left, but that still doesn't make him a total failure.

In any event, demeaning nicknames that some people use (such as MacPhail and MacFailure) are immature, childish, and uncalled for. I could be wrong, but I don't think that's reall what Tim had in mind when he started this board at his own personal expense.

So Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio on Friday morning spent a couple of segments on the sale and said that if Cuban bought the team, the Cubs would replace the Red Sox as the team ESPN focuses on.

I doubt that, but he raises a good point. Cub Nation would be much bigger and more represented if we had Cuban.

FWIW, Cowherd said Baseball NEEDS to do this to make the game more viable to the younger generation

By extension, the Cardinals and Brewers would get much more exposure, so they should be in favor of Cuban as well.

i wouldn't mind having a yankees-like payroll. bring on the hatred!

This X a trillion.

Might as well. The Cubs already have a ridiculous amount of haters (Sox fans, Cards fans, Brewers fans, plus some), might as well justify it.

I'm still pulling for Cuban...and I know you have your connections and such, and not to be dismissive, but I haven't heard anything that makes me think he doesn't have a shot at this point.

With Zell, maybe but not with MLB. It requires approval by 75% of the ownership as you probably already know. Look at what happened in Boston with the sale of the Red Sox.

The Red Sox weren't being sold by a public company.

This is very true, and something that everyone forgets about. MBL can't hold the hammer on the Cubs sale, because it's a public company, and by law they must seek to get top dollar for any sale. Cuban has just as much right to buy it as anyone else, if he has those dollars.

It's the bid that counts. Otherwise they would have to sue.

Why somone would have a beef against Kenney is beyond me.

He is the Antithesis of Andy McFailure.

Real mature. Do you know either of these guys? I do. One seems to have two WS rings that he won as the GM of the Minnesota Twins.

Oh but he got himself in real good standing with Bud Selig, and all we heard about is how he would be the next commissioner. That's what happened under good old Andy's time here. Sure he did some good things, but I can't help but think more could have been done.

Tribune is not a publically held company.

That's right, but it's also not like selling a privately held company. Similar fiduciary obligations/issues apply as in the sale of a public company.

The fact that those harmed by acceptance of a lower bid are employees of the Tribune makes it all the less likely.

I think a key issue, though, is that it's the Trib that has the fiduciary responsibility, not MLB. If the Trib accepts the highest bid but MLB doesn't approve it the Trib couldn't be held liable. They will have done their part.

Sam Zell doesn't appear to be the type of guy that will would go down quietly. He bought the Tribune Co. to make money, and if Cuban is offering the most money, he is going to move heaven and earth to make sure that Cuban is approved.
