Castillo showed some flashes last year. As a 20 year old in full-season ball he hit 11 HRs with a .271/.334/.423 line in 317 ABs.

But yes, his numbers at AA right now are amazing. If he manages to hit .300 the rest of the year at AA, he's going to move himself up the prospect charts quickly.

If he continues this up until the trade deadline, I think he'll be a mighty fine bargaining chip.

Thanks for putting up last year's numbers. I thought those numbers were pretty good considering his age and experience level, not to mention the defensive position he plays. I was worried about him sustaining that offense, and his AA number shows me that he can at least do that.

Even if Geo does end up being more of a Mickey Tettleton than a Pudge Rodriguez, he'll likely be our backstop of the future, so maybe this guy can build up some nice trade value.

Backup catchers play quite a bit, and it would be nice to have a cheap one instead of spending millions on a guy that does very little. Plus, catchers aren't the most durable players.

Exhibit 1 for the Cubs: Hundley, Randy.

His selection to the Future's Game could increase his perceived value and status, no?

Maybe to fans, but I doubt to anybody that matters. It could indicate his value and status is a little higher than people may have thought before.

Check out this nickname I made up for him: BEEF WELINGTON. Oh yeah I'm going to pretend that's awesome.

anytime you can give a guy a nickname "beef", you do it.

the extra base power and improving patience are very interesting, indeed. hopefully his success and his futures game appearance will get some buzz about him, and we'll get some more analysis on him from BA or BP.

glad to see Welli get the opportunity at the Futures game. I know that when he was in Peoria last year, the entire cub organization was super high on his potential, and they have definitely moved him accordingly. If all the other minor league teams are anything like Peoria last night (think I counted 9 radar guns at one point), the scouts are out in droves, so would guess that most of our prospects are getting lots of attention.

He needs at least a full season in Iowa. I can't say I'm for any talk of him replacing Blanco next season.

I love how Geovany Soto was usually seen as the successor to Blanco and a guy who would backup Barrett.
