Sure would be a refreshing change if Marquis pitches ahead in the count tonight, break that season long pattern of starting off every hitter off 2-0, what'd say Jason?

Is it even possible for Marquis to change the way I think about him?

I'd almost like him if he pitched a CG SO tonight, and then during his postgame interview he karate kicked Edmonds in the chest in celebration of his performance, breaking Edmonds' chest plate, knocking him out for the season.

After this happens, it is determined that Marquis has broken his ankle, and he will also be out for the season. Rich Hill gets the call up after his start tomorrow.

Yep, I think that's the best possible solution for tonight.

With all the injuries, the Rockies sported this lineup tonight:

Taveras

Seth Smith

Helton

Atkins

Spilborghs

Ian Stewart

Chris Iannetta

Omar Quintanilla

...Yikes. If Marquis can't get a quality start against this lineup or one similar, then someone should drop a piano on him.

better get the piano ready.

Ready, Boss.

Jason piano-dropping Marquis.

Love it already.

--I dropped the piano!-- doesn't have the same ring to it, though.

Would that make him a pianist?

Only to deaf genies.

Lineups?

It's 3 hours before game time. Probably got about 2 more to wait.

I thought they were out sooner than that. I was just curious because they were talking about the Cards lineup for their game tonight against Houston.

Speaking of which, it almost seems like LaRussa is trying to make a point to the sportwriters down here again. He's got Miles at SS (2-13 career against Oswalt) and Duncan in LF who's like 3-21 against Oswalt. Miklasz had an article today about sending Duncan to AAA. As hot as Ludwick has been, I hope he keeps doing it.

Pitching probables for the series:

Francis vs. Marquis

Cook vs. Lilly

_____ vs. Dempster

Jiminez vs. Gallagher

We have our 4 and 5 starters going this series, and our number 2 starter is matched up against probably their best, and a guy that owns us and has already owned us once this year. Honestly, the Rockies are down, but I'm thinking a split is likely here. Either that or I am just being a pessimistic jerk.

How does that projec for the 10th vs. Atl? There is an off day on the 9th. Would it be Lilly or Demp on reg. rest? Just curious as I am going to be there.

My guess would be Lilly. There is an offday on the 9th, so they could skip him, but obviously there would be no reason to.

29 - Marquis, 30 - Lilly, 31 - Demp, 1 - Gallagher, 2 - Zambrano, 3 - Marquis, 4 - Lilly, 5 - Demp, 6 - Gallagher, 7 - Zambrano, 8 - Marquis, 9 - Off, 10 - Lilly

The rumor I heard was that Glendon Rusch was starting for Colorado on Saturday.

They mentioned something about that during the game last night. I would be awesome to face Glendon Rusch and Shawn Estes in a few days span.

Yeah, but, um, didn't Shawn Estes already beat us this year?

Yup, and in his 4 starts this year, the Cubs got the most baserunners off of him. I don't think Estes is great, but I'm not really looking forward to facing him again when he pitches on Monday like I normally would when hearing the name. He's pitched well so far this year.

This is Soto's 6th game in the 5th spot, 5th time batting directly behind Ramirez. 3rd time in a row when Soto has started against a left-hander that he's been in that spot.

Theriot really needs to get out of the 2 spot..

It's strange with him. His OBP has remained high this month, but his power has dropped like a rock. Not too often you see a player over almost a hundred at-bats in a month have his OBP 59 points higher than his SLG.
