He can't pitch, but he swings the bat pretty well - so why is he bunting with 2 strikes?!

Between him and Edmonds, I'm beginning to wonder if this is all just a part of Tony LaRussa's master plan to bring the Cubs down from the inside.

Normally, a person implementing such a plan would make sure that the players in question were awesome before coming to the Cubs.

LaRussa knew Hendry was too smart for that, and made sure they were horrible even before the Cubs signed them. Even Hendry's genius would never see their continued suckage coming.

fittingly, by far his best offensive years came with the cardinals, but he has been lousy with the bat on the braves and cubs.

Yeah, Marquis hasn't been much of a hitter lately. He's had one good year (2005).

who the hell is seth smith

SEC Freshman of the Year out of Ole Miss in....2001 I think. Was the Rockies 2nd round pick in 2004.

He was also Eli Manning's backup QB at Ole Miss. Which is funny because Todd Helton was Peyton's backup at Tennessee for a while.

Smith was also the guy that Papelbon (from Mississippi State) struck out to end the WS last year.
