For the record, it took Lou seven seasons to win his 100th game with the devil rays

i hate myself because I believed you for like 3 seconds.

Wow.

Yeah.

Then I was like "wait...that's less than 20 wins a year....not possible."

I actually had a tab open with his BR page and looked over.

Ok i don't feel so bad. It only took me until I actually put thought to it till I realized how impossible that was.

With as bad as lou was tonight - i'll still take his 'overmanaging' faults to dusty's 'big fat idiot' faults any day.

I agree. Just a question, how close was the game winning run. I'm just curious if Fontenot scored where Soto wouldn't have.

There was no play on Fontenot. Hawpe went away from the play to get it, but I'm still not sure Soto scores. There's definitely a play on him at the plate.

Yeah, I didn't disagree with PR for soto. I just wish we wouldn't have done it for lee. Save Pie and PR him for Soto.

Regardless of the fact that Lou had no idea Ramirez would homer, lee isn't that slow.

Also, is anyone else mad that because of ht way things turned out people aren't really going to remember how awesome that Ramirez HR was by the end of the year? It will just get lost in the shuffle because it ended up not being a game winner.

Not close ... there were two outs so he was going at the crack of the bat.

Great teams win games like this. Awesome win.

Exactly!

Great teams pick each other up when need be and get the job done...game after game....let's start to run away with this thing!

Na, I hope we win the damn division by so much no one worries about tuning in until September.

That's exactly my thoughts. In fact pinch running for Lee also made it so pinch running for Soto could have been a bad move because we would have had no hitters.

I would love to enjoy a 15 plus lead in the division at least once in my life. (Followed by WS championship of course.)

I'll remember it. I'm soaking this all in right now, believe me.

One more thing (I have to make up for having a job and missing games now) the Cubs could be tied for the best record in the Majors in about an hour.

So, I went to the White Sox game tonight (for free).

On nights that I go to white sox games this season.

Sox lose

Wood blows save

Cubs win in extras.

Maybe I should go more often?

It will be interesting to see how Lou explains his moves in the paper tomorrow. I have a feeling he is going to justify pinch running Pie not as much for the steal, but to increase the chances of scoring on a double given the massive outfield in Colorado.

My guess is that if Theriot had grounded out, Lou would have put the pitcher spot 2nd, moved Cedeno to short, DeRosa to 2nd, and Ward would have played 1st. That wouldn't have ended up being too terrible of a lineup, albeit jumbled. That's the only reason I'd consider substituting for Lee knowing that it frees up Ward's bat to come into the game, but even then the dropoff between those two players is too much for me, even accounting for the difference in speed between Pie and Lee. It makes it more defensible, but still not correct.

I love how MLB.com says "Maddux in line for 350th win" and right below it shows the Giants tying up the Padres in the 9th.

Damn ... if Maddux would have won, this could have been the perfect baseball night.

I have a few questions for those who were able to watch the game -

Do you guys agree with Lou's decision to take Hill out when he did? I mean, yeah, he'd just given up a solo homer and walked Todd Helton, and even from the box score it was obvious Rich didn't have his best stuff (all the walks and whatnot), but he'd only thrown 84 pitches and it was only the 6th inning - and I've got to think that Rich was at least pitching well enough (he'd only given up 3 hits, after all) to stay in the game instead of Wuertz.

Secondly, how was Wood? Were the hits off of him legit? I'm especially interested in the triple. Did it get misplayed or something that allowed that to happen? Judging from how filthy everyone says he was, it seems surprising that Podsednik and Spilborghs would do that to him all of a sudden.
