lincecum will not be traded. put away that pipe dream.

Didn't Sabean already publicly put him on the market, stating that he wanted some bats in exchange? Granted, that was before Zito began another year as Sucky Zito, but still...Sabean's already exposed himself as being open to it, depending on if the right deal comes around. Sabean isn't known as a fleecer like Beane, or as unreasonable like TB.

It was last offseason. Riccardi offered Rios for Cain and was told that the Giants would rather trade Lincecum because they are worried about his injury possibility. Sabean sat on the offer for a couple weeks but ended up turning it down. Or at least thats how it all played out on the interwebs. So, yeah, Lincecum could definitely be traded. I don't think it'll be to the cubs, but you never know. If any team needed quantity over quality, it'd be the Giants.

Isn't Villalona eventually going to have to move to first? We have a lot more interesting trading pieces in the minors at 3B than we do at 1B.

Braves are 20 games out on July 1st.

John Smoltz agrees to approve a trade to the Cubs.

Jim Hendry trades for Smoltz.

MLB trembles with fear.

Rangers Expected To Be Sellers

At 7-15, the Rangers have the worst record in the American League. Team president Nolan Ryan doesn't seem ready for a fire sale yet, but you have to figure the Rangers will be clear sellers come June.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post recently suggested Kevin Millwood, Vicente Padilla, Hank Blalock, Frank Catalanotto, and Milton Bradley as trade candidates. As Sherman says, Millwood could be a hot commodity. He looks healthy and would certainly help a contender. Gerald Laird, Marlon Byrd, Jamey Wright, and Joaquin Benoit could also be dealt.

The Rangers already have the fourth-best farm system in baseball according to Baseball America; Jon Daniels' team could climb even higher with another bountiful July.

Forget Marlon Byrd. How about picking up Millwood and/or Bradley. Millwood is signed through 2010 ($8.5, $11, $12), but there's a club option after 2009 based on innings pitched. We know Bradley is crazier than a loon, but he can hit from both sides and play all 3 positions. How about Marshall, Murton, and Patterson as a starting point for Millwood and Bradley.

I bet we get Laird. :(

Replacing Blanco with Laird would be an upgrade as long as he doesn't cut into Geo's playing time.

Speaking of which, is this finally the last year of that bloated backup catcher contract?

Yes, this is finally the last year of that 2 year deal.

Definitely pass on Bradley. The outfield is in good shape; no need for any more help (especially a player who's a lock to spend some quality time on the DL).

Well, yes and no.

There is a 3 million dollar club option for next year with a 300k buyout. That option could technically become guaranteed, but he'd need 170 games started between this year and last... which he wont come close.

Yeah, I remembered the buyout later. Thanks for that catch. The guarantee is already gone. He can't reach 170 even if he starts every game left in this year.

Assuming they don't pick up the option, do we have any minor leaguers who could step up and fill the backup role cheaply?

Does Fox still catch? I thought he was playing in the field but if he can still catch that could be cheap.

Or there's always...Koyie Hill...

I don't think we have any minor league catchers that excite me as options. But picking up a veteran back-up isn't that hard. Those guys usually bounce around the league quite a bit. If your starting catcher is good enough so that you don't want to bench him freely, back-up catcher isn't a position that you have to worry about too much.

I don't think Fox is really an option at catcher anymore, barring an emergency.

I though we had a latin player in the higher levels who was known for his defense? Jose Reyes maybe?

Wellington Castillo? Hes in Daytona though, but hes the only good defending catcher I can think of.

How about Mike MacDougal? I know, hes had his ups and downs, but hes never piched in the NL, aside from interleague play, and maybe he could give us a solid season.

Seeing as hes in AAA as we speak, I doubt the Sox would demand too much for him.

Not a bad idea L.L.F., what were his numbers while he was up with the White Sox? God know we need help with middle relief right now.

Rich Hill, Felix Pie, and Eric Patterson for Joe Blanton(or is it Rich Harden, I always get them cofused, but I mean the one whose not always injured)

Considering Hill is better than Blanton, I don't see the need to throw in Pie and EPatt...

Gammons brought up on ESPN that that Lou would love Fuku in the 2 spot if they could get a run producing CF (sounded like his own speculation and not from Lou) to hit in the 5 spot, and mentioned Milton Bradley as a possibility.

Milton's hitting .323/.416/.500 so far.

Why the bleep would it have to be a run producing CF?!?

Hit Geo Soto in the number five freaking spot behind Ramirez.
